It's only the second iron pill I have taken and first b complex.. just feeling I don't need any more side effects at the moment . Also I collected my next dosage of thyroxine was given Mercury pharma today I checked them In the chemist to be sure they were sane brand I usually have .the others are accord brand that I usually have. Will the Mercury pharma ones be OK no problems with . Thanks

Only add or change one thing at a time

Then wait 10-14 days before adding another

Otherwise you can’t tell what is helping or what is causing issues

Looking at previous post, your ferritin was ok. Did you get a full iron panel test. Never take iron supplements without getting full panel test done FIRST iron is toxic if you don’t need it

Accord only makes 50mcg and 100mcg

See how you get on with Mercury

Other 25mcg options are

Vencamil - lactose free

Wockhardt

Teva - lactose free but contains mannitol

If you want only Accord you could get 50mcg tablets and cut in half to get 25mcg

What kind of iron tablets are you taking? The NHS usually prescribes iron pills that are hard for many of us to tolerate.

Be aware that there are alternatives that you can buy without prescription. And the iron supplements that the NHS prescribes can be bought in pharmacies in the UK without prescription.

Have you posted the results of an iron panel?

Phosphatase 15.2 out side ref range

Vitamin d 5.84

Vitam b12 395 (1.97-771.0)

Serum folate 7.0g ( 3.0-20.0 )

Ferritin 57 ug/l (13-150)

.

Your vitamin D is practically non-existent and you need to supplement. You can determine the dose you need with this link :

grassrootshealth.net/projec...

Make sure you only buy vitamin D3. The best supplements are found in small capsules in oil.

.

Vitamin B12 - Your result is too low. See these links :

perniciousanemia.org/b12/fo...

perniciousanemia.org/b12/le...

Many of us do well with methylcobalamin to raise B12.

.

Folate - I would suggest you get your level to the upper half of the reference range i.e. approx 12 - 20.

Many of us do well with methylfolate to raise folate. But start low and slow with this - some people don't tolerate it to begin with and have to build up slowly.

.

Ferritin (Iron stores) - It would be safer for you to test an iron panel before taking iron supplements. It is possible that you already have high serum iron, and taking more iron might make it rise even higher. It is also possible your serum iron is really low in which case you could take iron supplements quite safely. But at the moment you simply don't know.

.

Phosphatase - I'm assuming this is alkaline phosphatase? If so, I know nothing about it. But this link might help you :

I see that you also have high cholesterol due to your thyroid medication not being optimal yet. If you have high cholesterol levels, this can raise alkaline phosphatase levels over time, as your liver has difficulties processing the additional cholesterol and therefore the enzyme levels can rise as a mechanism to cope with the extra workload.

Once your thyroid medication (and especially your T3) have been adjusted better, cholesterol as well as alkaline phosphatase should normalise again, e.g., come down.

I feel nauseous taking Vitamin B Complex, I stopped using HRT thinking it was that and then realised it was the Vit' B.

B-Complex does cause Nauseousness. I found that eating enough helped me not have Nausea.

I had bad gut problems from two min/ vit. supplements: ferrous fumarate was too aggressive on my stomach, so changed to milder 3 Arrows Heme, and then Thorne B Complex capsules ‘suddenly’ became totally undigested with bad lower gut pain, I changed to Igennus little tablets.

Just a PS, you know not to take Vit D anywhere near your iron supplements? That can cause severe stomach issues.
