Hello, a year and a half I was given a radioactive treatment for my thyroids which I was doing great until February my doc asked to do a blood test and saw my TSH level was at 11.246 and prescribed me levothyroxine 50 mcg. First day of taking the pills I got severe chills, nausea, was light headed and my heart rate was abnormal. I didn't take the pills until the feeling passed but I gained back all those symptoms, since last week i stopped taking the meds but now my blood pressure is either elevated or low, my heart rate is still abnormal, I'm feeling tired and I've started with gas on my lower abdomen and back pain since a week ago and I've been feeling really dehydrated. Last week Friday dr asked me to do a blood test which my TSH was at 0.022. I explained to him ally symptoms and he said to stop taking the meds for a month and told me to take propranolol for a week to stop the symptoms. As of today I'm still having those symptoms. Not sure what to do since my doctor is all the way in Guatemala and I've tried reaching out to him but he hasn't been much of help. When I tried reaching out he doesn't respond back which sucks. I'm worried if these feelings will ever pass.

Feeling unwell taking levothyroxine and side effects still lingering after stopping

Welcome to the forum
Can you retest FULL thyroid and vitamin levels
TSH, Ft4 and Ft3
Plus vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Important to test early morning if possible
Hello Wassabi and welcome to the forum :
Did you mean to write that you have been hyperthyroid since 2018 and not hypothyroid ?
Are you diagnosed Graves Disease and were you originally hyperthyroid and put on an Anti Thyroid drug for several months in the hope your immune system would calm down and your thyroid reset itself without the need for any drugs ?
It reads as though you have had RAI - radioactive thyroid ablation - and this toxic substance slowly burns out your thyroid in situ - and generally within 6 months of have this treatment you will become hypothyroid and needing to take some form of thyroid hormone replacement as your own thyroid becomes total disabled.
It is essential that you are dosed on your Free T3 and Free blood test results and we generally feel best when the T4 to towards the top end of its range at around 75% through the range with T3 tracking just behind at around 70% through its range.
There are generally several different brands of T4 - Levothyroxine - so ask for a different brand - with different fillers if you feel this brand of T did not suit you.
No thyroid hormone replacement works well until your core strength vitamins and minerals those of ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D are up and maintained at optimal levels and we can advise of all your blood test results as long as you also provide the ranges - as I would imagine your country's ranges different to those used in the UK.
I've been diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I'm not diagnosed with graves disease. My doctor decided doing the radioactive treatment would've reset my thyroids which after doing the treatment I was doing really good. But once I started to drink the levothyroxine in February I started back with those symptoms. He asked for me to continue taking propranolol 20 mg twice a day and to monitor my blood pressure 3 times a day until Friday I'll have to do a blood test again.
Propranolol will affect thyroid levels
Propranolol also lowers magnesium levels
If/when you start reducing propranolol it has to be done very very slowly
What vitamin supplements are you currently taking
IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

In days before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12 if last test result serum B12 was below 500 or active B12 (private test) under 70
After doing the radioactive treatment the doctor told me to stop drinking any vitamins until he gives me the go ahead. When I kept asking if I can start he kept telling me not yet until last week he said I can take vitamins but wasn't specific so I got vitamin b 12 in pills amount of 100 mcg.
