I had a squint correct aged 3, now nearly 63 and have symptoms that indicate thyroid issues. Currently under investigation but in the meantime my squint has ‘turned in’ and I’m experiencing difficulties with far vision, driving for example. I also have a chronic rheumatoid AI condition and dry eyes.

Any one else with a similar experience? Prisms in my glasses have just been arranged and the optician said if they don’t work he will refer to to NHS.

hey Stills,

No diagnosis yet? What’s going on there? What’s the latest?

I get eye problems if my FT4 goes too high. They are generally dry. I think that’s a common hypo thing.

Good that you can get a referral to NHS, I would push for that and insist on checking everything out.

That’s what I thought, I already use drops for dry eyes which apparently is common with rheumatoid conditions which I have but I’m aware thyroid can also be a cause.

Diagnosis: I have managed to get an appointment for a full health check after telling them my thyroid gland has enlarged and feels uncomfortable in my throat so I am hopeful this will cause action at least and I can ask about bloods etc having previously been told by them they don’t acknowledge private tests! I’m still planning to self test so I can optimise vitamins but just tied up caring for Mum atm but she’s improving every day.

Good stuff well done. Push for an ultrasound, mine was tender when they palpate (more like had a squidge) then they referred me for ultrasound. Good to know what it looks like in there.
