Iron Supplementation & TSH

Hi All,

I was wondering whether supplementing with iron (not mega doses, more 20-30mg daily) increases TSH over time? I feel it’s really slowed me down digestion wise. It started ok but now it’s really noticeable.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks!

Not directly, no. Whereas of course it’s all connected - our thyroid health, our iron status and our digestion…

But no. Iron does not directly cause TSH to rise (even if it had an impact it would likely be for it to decrease.)

Why do you think it’s connected to your TSH trends?

Lastly - iron supplement (especially non-heme synthetic iron salts) will cause constipation. Remedy for this is considering gentler forms of iron or switching to heme, and adding magnesium and fiber to your diet.
