Recently started 50mcg levothyroxine. Will fill in the bio at a later date but for now I’d just like to know why? What’s the benefit of being gluten free

As I view your post (on a computer - not a phone), to the right I see "Related Posts".

I suggest you might find wandering through some of them interesting.

My view is that we are all different. Some certainly seem to do better without gluten. But others notice little difference. But the difference seems to be like night and day to a proportion of members.

Some might even feel better without but find that later they can tolerate it.

Probably want to wait a few weeks/months before trying Gluten free

Only make one change at a time or you can’t work out what’s helpful

50mcg is only standard STARTER dose levothyroxine

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose increase

Which brand of levothyroxine have you started on

Are vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at good levels

Are you taking any other medications

It's not about being hypo. It's about being gluten-intolerant. A lot of Hashi's people are gluten-intolerant, so cutting out the gluten gets rid is the symptoms caused by the gluten. It doesn't make any difference to your hypothyroidism. So, I think your wife has misunderstood something she's read. Or, she's been misinformed.

And for the record, I have Hashi's but going gluten-free did absolutely nothing for me. :)

Totally agree with greygoose . Everyone is different. I’m hypo and gluten is fine for me. I did try going gluten free and noticed no difference. In fact, I do better eating what I want when I want. The only things that affect me (and it’s probably more due to my lupus than being hypo) is alcohol and sugar. I rarely drink these days and I try to not have too much sugar late in the day.

My body went lactose intolerant instead, but gluten is fine for me.
