TSH is not the best biomarker for thyroid

Following a link on here I recently signed up to academia.edu to look at a paper on hypothyroidism . Now they are sending me other papers, to my email, which is great.

They just sent this one which is very easy to read and is basically saying TSH is not the most useful bio marker for diagnosis or treatment of hypothyroidism. They have found T4 to be the most useful marker. (They need more evidence on T3)

I'm not sure why they say they need more evidence of T3...it is the active thyroid hormone and known to be the most important marker followed by FT4.....though this still hasn't penetrated most medics minds!!

Thanks for posting this. In another decade there may be clinicians who practice according to this truth. Once there’s more evidence from randomized controlled trials or experiments or whatever they find compelling. 🙄

What would the world do without this group?

I just cannot understand why medical professionals don't think T3 is an important marker, when it's the active thyroid hormone. It's crazy!
