This paper actually suggests that elevated fats (cholesterol, triglycerides etc) in blood may be a good marker for hypothyroidism. Well, well who would have thought it? We've known about the link of elevated fats and the hypo condition for a long time.

"A rational approach suggests considering combined treatment in adult athyreotic patients with persistent symptoms or CV risk factors despite adequate replacement doses of LT4, after excluding other causes of persistent disease. The aim of combined therapy should be to obtain the normalization of the peripheral parameters of thyroid hormone action while maintaining FT4 and FT3 levels within their respective reference range. Combined treatment is not indicated in elderly patients, pregnant women, and patients with a history of arrhythmias or chronic ischemic heart disease.
Large prospective studies are needed in the future to provide the rationale for an evidence-based treatment with LT4-LT3 in patients with hypothyroidism. Slow-release T3 formulations, providing stable T3 levels, would improve this treatment."
It didn't seem that long for a scientific paper, so maybe I only got part of it after all. Strange the way they will sometimes let you in and sometimes not
Thanks for posting that link humanbean, but I keep getting a message saying safari cannot connect with the server and the page just says ‘local host’. Diogenes Thank You So Much for your continued Great Articles that you bring to us . My only problem is that I think though not sure that Medical Academia has known for a long time that many symptoms are related to hypothyroidism . It's not NEW . However I put blame over and over again on BIG PHARMA who's *Only* interest is giving out scripts for lower cholesterols , Lowering High BP , Diabetes pills , Tranquilizers , Sleeping Pills , Digestive Pills , Constipations , Water pills etc. Need I go any further . Big Pharma is in the Dr's Pockets . Their Interest is to Keep Society sick and dummied down .
I ask is this the way to treat society ? Wouldn't testing FT3 FT4 TSH and giving the *Right* **Thyroid Meds** either T4 NDT T3 ? IMO it's the Right and Better way to go for our embitterment Emotionally/Physically . Instead of pilling on meds that don't work in many cases and only exasperates the problems and sets us up for failures .
In addition our Health Costs Benefits would benefit as well . Costs would come down too .
I agree with what you have said about Pharma companies wanting to keep people sick so they keep their profits up.
I also think another factor is that thyroid disease is mainly suffered by females. In this case it is the doctors who are keeping us sick because they believe that women exaggerate and lie about their health, and want attention because of it. The males who suffer with thyroid disease are probably often dismissed precisely because they are suffering from a disease that is perceived to be almost wholly female.
Your so right . So therefore Big Pharma will be more than happy to fill script for tranquilizers for females . Isn't that a Big Shame ????? Personally I feel IMO it's a crime .
Thanks for keeping us up to date with interesting research like this. It gives one hope that eventually there might be a change in entrenched and unhelpful attitudes to thyroid diagnosis and treatment.
