hi my daughters carbimazole dose has been lowered from 10mg to 5. She is complaining of some chest pain. Has anyone experienced this? This has occurred before and was in the midst of thyroid systems so gp didn’t think it was a concern but I feel it’s linked to the medication

Hello Ruby :
What has your daughter been diagnosed with ?
Carbimazole is an Anti Thyroid drug and generally prescribed when there is a diagnosis of Graves Disease -
Is this case - please confirm which antibodies were found positive in her initial blood test and can you share her TSH + T3 + T4 readings and ranges at diagnosis
and more recently when the drug dose was adjusted down to just 5mcg a day :
You may find the following research of interest if my guess on diagnosis is correct :
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/338...
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/306...
The most rounded of all I have researched is that of Elaine Moore - books and website -

what were her results that prompted dose reduction in Carbimazole
She needs bloods retested 6 weeks after dose change
ESSENTIAL to test vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin
Ideally full iron panel including ferritin
Low iron/ferritin often causes tight chest and/or breathlessness
What vitamin supplements is she taking
Has she definitely had Graves’ disease confirmed by testing TSI or Trab antibodies
Low iron/ferritin can cause chest pain. So I would definitely ask for your daughter to get a full iron panel.
