Grave's disease

Hello all,

I finally had a follow up appointment with the consultant today and he prescribed Propylthiouracil 100 mg. He said the side effects could be severe sore throat, sudden mouth ulcer or very high temperature and if that happens, he advised to stop the medicine immediately.

He said he was prescribing this particular medicine in light of me trying to get pregnant

I will see the consultant again in 6 weeks.

What are your thoughts on this medicine?

When is the best time to take the medicine?

So, did you get the other antibodies tested to confirm Graves'? If not, be very, very careful. If you do have Hashi's and not Graves', you're going to go very hypo very quickly, and that will reduce your chances of conceiving considerably.

TSH-receptor antibodies positive at 5.7 (May 24) and 14.5 (Oct 24)

TSH L 0.01, free T3 6.3, free T4 19.2

Endo mentioned something about white blood cell could decrease because of the medicine, which is kind of 😨

Yes, you said about the TRAB before, but that isn't proof positive of Graves' because they can be high in Hashi's as well - especially with your other levels not really being extreme enough for Graves', and more like Hashi's.

The other antibodies it was pointed out to you that needed testing were TSI to confirm Graves', and TPOab and TgAB for Hashi's.

I questioned the diagnosis and he insisted it's definitely Graves.

What test do I need to request to confirm Grave's or otherwise?

Can such test be done through the GP or private?

I started taking PTT this morning and the after taste is so bad

This doesn't help in the slightest, but...

The substance 6-n-propylthiouracil (PROP) tastes bitter to some humans however is tasteless to others.

No idea why they refer to it as PROP but most often PTU in the context of thyroid!

Just read the article.Alleles in the taste 2 receptor member TAS2R38 probably explains why I don't drink at all.
