Advice regarding Virus/BT Appointment

It is a while since I have been in touch -

I am still doing SI EOD B12 Injections - on prescription with my GP but providing my own Syringes and Needles.

I am also taking EOD 75/100mcg Thyroxine and at the point of the last test on 25/7/24,

My last Thyroid Test results on 25/7/24 were

TSH 0.59 - (Range 0.3- 5.5)

T4 14.2 - (Range 10-22)

At this point alhough not back to where I was - I was feeling as well as I had been for 3 years,

at the start of this journey when first taken ill.

However shortly after this I began to feel unwell again with no changes or explaination as to why ?

Since this I have been struggling to get back to the feeling good again ?? -

Although I am meticulous in keeping to my regime, there seems to be no consistancy in how I am feeling.

My GP, who I am very lucky to have - is now doing further investigations for me and I have a BT Appointment on Friday 1/11 to check my latest bloods including FBC and Thyroid, Folate etc - but since making the appointment, at the end of last week I have gone down with a nasty viral infection and right now am feeling really rubbish - I am hopeful to have recovered and of feeling well enough to go for the appointment on Friday but am wondering if I should perhaps give a little more time before the BT's for my body to readjust ??

I would be grateful for any advice or comments you might be able to offer please.

Many thanks

Free T4 (fT4) 14.2 pmol/L (10 - 22)

Ft4 only 35.0% through range

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Was this how you did this test?

Assuming yes…..

Results strongly suggest you need dose increase in levothyroxine

How much levothyroxine are you currently taking

How long on this dose

Do you always get same brand Levo at each prescription

Are you also taking daily vitamin B complex

And vitamin D?

at the end of last week I have gone down with a nasty viral infection and right now am feeling really rubbish - I am hopeful to have recovered and of feeling well enough to go for the appointment on Friday

I would rebook blood test if possible …..but if not possible just get it done

Many thanks Slow Dragon for your prompt reply.

Yes all BT's done 9am / Fasting overnight and no Throxine until after BT done, as recomended.

I will see if I can rebook my BT with a 9am appt -

I had previously been on 100mcg Thyroxine - which was fine for a while and then too much ?

Sorry I had ommitted to add that in addition to the

EOD 75 mcg Mon Wed Frid - 100mcg Tues Thur - I m taking 100mcg on Sat/Sun -

this was suggested by someone on your forum and I have been on this since September.

I have been taking Hillcross for the past few months for 100 50 25 Thyroxine.

I have not been aware or noticed any difference in any of the brands that I have used.

I take a B Complex and 1000 Vitamin D along with a Folate 400 every day, but had stopped taking it pre BT as forum advice re - Biotin.

I found it strange that with my Ft4 at 14.2 - I was feeling so much better than I had when it had been previously higher at 15.3 and 15.9 ?

I hope this helps to clarify things.

Many thanks

Hillcross is just a box …..not a brand

Hillcross 25mcg is Teva brand

Teva can be an issue for many people

And if only a small amount of total daily dose it can be difficult to work out if Teva is causing issue

Hillcross 50mcg and 100mcg are Accord brand

I had previously been on 100mcg Thyroxine - which was fine for a while and then too much ?

in what way too much

Did you have symptoms

Or was it just low TSH

The 100mcg over time gave me symptoms of being overmedicated by thyroxine.

I take a B Complex and 1000 Vitamin D along with a Folate 400 every day,

Which B complex. Most contain folate so, assuming it contains folate ….you are taking a high dose of folate

Usually we need vitamin B complex on its own without extra folate

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 5-7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

endo.confex.com/endo/2016en...

endocrinenews.endocrine.org...

Only week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg)

Thank you Slow Dragon -

The reason that I am taking B Complex and a separate Folate 400 is that I have seen a video by the B12d Society with Dr Andrew Klein - who said that if you were injecting B12 you would need a folate level of 15 - 20 in order to make the B12 work.

My last Folate reading on 9/1/24 was 11.7 ( 2.1 - 26.8)

The B Complex I take is Liposomal which contains 400 Folate.

Yes I had stopped the B Complex prior to having the BT on Friday.

Something I had previously read on the forum.

If I may - I will write again with the results after I have had the next BT's done.

Thank you again for your help
