was test early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

T3 ….day before test split T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day, with last dose approximately 8-12 hours before test

no vitamin D test result?

What vitamin supplements are you taking

B12 extremely low

Ferritin low

Do you always get same brand levothyroxine

Same brand T3

Are you gluten and/or dairy free

You look like you need to REDUCE T3 by 5mcg ….but does depend on when last dose T3 was before test

Did you stop vitamin B complex 5-7 days before test

Are you taking a separate B12 as well

If not you need to start doing so

With serum B12 result below 500, (Or active B12 below 70) recommended to be taking a separate B12 supplement…….Plus a separate vitamin B Complex

Then once your serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), you may be able to reduce then stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.

If Vegetarian or vegan likely to need ongoing separate B12 few times a week

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Igennus B complex popular option. Nice small tablets. Most people only find they need one per day. But a few people find it’s not high enough dose and may need separate methyl folate couple times a week

Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule) Thorne can be difficult to find at reasonable price, should be around £20-£25. iherb.com often have in stock. Or try ebay

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 5-7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12

How long exactly was last dose of T3 before test and what dose ?

Last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test?

Are you taking iron supplements at least 2 hours away from other supplements

Iron, magnesium, vitamin D tablets all at least 4 hours away from Levo

JCMartin in reply toSlowDragon

I didn't know vitamin D was an issue?

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply toJCMartin

Yes, vitamin D tablets or gels at least 4 hours away from levothyroxine

Mouth spray doesn’t need to be, as absorbed in gut

Hi, yes stopped Vit B a week before. My B12 was usually high, but will add if you think it's needed. Last Levo was 24hrs before the test, the T3 last dost was 20 about 16hrs before. Also Magnesium and Iron taken in the evening and Levo morning.

Cut down to 30 T3 yesterday and feel better already. Fitting a heart monitor today so thought I needed to take action.

So split new dose as 3 x 10mcg spread across the day

You might feel a bit rough having reduced by 10mcg, or might just feel improved as you were taking too much

Retest after 8 weeks

On the day before thyroid blood test, delay your last dose of T3 to allow 8-12hrs before the test. Any longer and your result will show a false low.

OK will do next time, but that's a long delay as take it around 1130am.

Are you not splitting your dose?

Take 1/3rd at the 8-12hr before test point. I doubt you’ll notice much difference and it’s just for one day.
