What were results ? TSH, FT4 & FT3. Post them with lab range.
Did you have previous thyroid issues or is this new?
Usually GPs consult / refer to endocrinology if patient needs carbimazole. For monitoring.
Carbimazole interrupts how much the thyroid can produce. Cutting / stopping production of hormone lowers your FT4 & FT3 & raises your TSH.
Anxiety & sleep common issue with both high or low thyroid.
Were any antibodies tested to see if you have autoimmune occuring & the cause of your “hyper”? Hyper can be transiet, so important to check this. (TPO, TG, TSI or TRab antibodies)
The levels should be retested around week 6 of starting carbimazole, has that been scheduled?

Can you please share with forum members your blood test results that resulted in a prescription of Carbimazole - which is an Anti Thyroid drug -
and generally prescribed when antibodies are found positive and over range in your blood - which look like - TPO - TgAB - TRab - TSI - results and ranges and or a TSH Thyroid Receptor antibody result is a single number and cut off level.
All the AT drug does is semi-block your new daily own thyroid hormone production while we wait for your immune system to calm down again and hopefully your thyroid reset itself without the need for any drugs.
Slowly your T3 and T4 will fall back down into range and hopefully your symptoms are relieved, anxiety and insomnia are common symptoms when with a thyroid health issue but should have been alleviated by the AT drug -
and yes - I would have thought you should be referred to the endocrinology team at the hospital who then may work and advise through your primary care provider as there is something of a back log and delays in getting O/P appointments.
I don’t know results of my Thyroid only that my Thyroid levels were high but TSH levels normal so my GP had advice to put me on Carbimazole 20mg and to have another blood test in 6weeks which is due 9th Sept ,
About 20 years ago I had an episode where my levels were a bit high I think I was just put on beta blockers for a while and then levels went back to normal , there is a lot of thyroid problems in my family but mainly under active ,
The only other medication I am on is a low dose (10mg) statin .
Fluctuating levels could be Hashimoto's -a thyroid Auto Immune disease and is confirmed by antibodies circulating in the blood at the time of the ' hyper ' type incident - and over time the thyroid becomes further damaged, looses its ability to support the body fully and the person tends to become hypothyroid and eventually prescribed T4 Levothyroxine thyroid hormone replacement.
Maybe look back through your records - maybe you'll see TPO/TgAB antibody readings taken from the bloods but just not told as there is no treatment until such time as you are suffering more symptoms of hypothyroidism -
