Hi ive posted several times about my thyroid journey etc but would like some advice on my sons partners blood test she has had a few fainting episodes and racing heart etc been to the Drs and hospital etc and numerous blood test this is the latest one she said all these were borderline she didn't give the ranges but to me it seems to many to be borderline iam getting on to her to phone drs and make a nuisance of herself basically because these seem to many to be borderline and advice is appreciated thanks

Well we all know borderline isn't a great place to be! She should be able to see the results via the NHS App or ask reception for a printed copy which she is entitled too... if you add them we'll chip in

she’s legally entitled to copies of all her test results and ranges

Far too often relevant tests are not done

For full Thyroid evaluation she needs TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested

Also both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once to see if hypothyroidism is autoimmune

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease

About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high TPO and/or high TG thyroid antibodies

Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s

Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.

Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.

Significant minority of Hashimoto’s patients only have high TG antibodies (thyroglobulin)

20% of autoimmune thyroid patients never have high thyroid antibodies and ultrasound scan of thyroid can get diagnosis

In U.K. medics hardly ever refer to autoimmune thyroid disease as Hashimoto’s (or Ord’s thyroiditis)

For good conversion of Ft4 (levothyroxine) to Ft3 (active hormone) we must maintain GOOD vitamin levels

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins
