Haven't posted in a while just feeling very fed up, no one understands what living with thyroid issues is actually like. Anyone else feel people are ignorant to it.

Hi Jodes, i feel your pain and yes it's really frustrating when people don't get, no matter how many times you try to explain! How ever, I don't think I would have understood before it happened to me either. You can't really describe the kind of fatigue you feel, everyone says 'oh yeah I get tired too'...feel like screaming!!

Well, they are ignorant of it - unless they have it.

Even close family find it difficult to understand that you can look so good and yet feel so bad. And they have difficulty believing that a problem in your neck can cause such a diversity of problems. I was always being told by my daughter that this, that or the other symptom couldn't possibly have anything to do with my thyroid because it was nowhere near it! lol

Unless they want to understand and do some research, they have no idea what a thyroid is or what it does - and why would they? It's not the sort of thing you learn in school. And it doesn't get much publicity. Even if you read in the press that this or that celebrity has 'under-active thyroid' or 'hypothyroidism', the details are just glossed over and ignored, and people end up believing it's no big deal. So, that's our curse and we have to live with it - unless we can work out a way to give the thyroid a higher profile. And that just never seems to work, somehow...

But, at least we've got each other. :)

I rediscovered this recently, embedded in one of tattybogle ’s brilliantly informative posts. Definitely worth a read. Brought me to tears actually!

I agree with everything said, went through most of my childhood not on the correct dose of thyroxine, because in those days thyroid levels would not be tested each year started on medication over 70 yrs.
