Welcome to the forum Titchypants234,

So we can offer better advice, can you tell us more about your thyroid condition, eg when you were diagnosed, ongoing symptoms, current medication & dosage, plus blood test results (with ranges in brackets) for:

TSH

FT3

FT4

Plus any antibody and key vitamin tests (ferritin, folate, vitamins D and B12)

If your GP is unable to complete all the above (eg if TSH is within range, some surgeries may not be able to access FT4 and FT3 tests), you could look to do this privately, as many forum members do, for a better picture of your thyroid health:

Hi, you say that you are hungry.

You might find it helpful to look at the book 'The Functional Approach to Hypothyroidism' by Dr Kenneth R. Blanchard. He spent over 30 years in medical practice. At first he followed the standard teaching, but began to question these teachings.

He talks about patients who get food cravings when started on thyroid meds. He got these patients to take their T4 (levothyroxine) with food to see if the cravings go away and in most cases found that it did and they reported that "the hungries are gone". He thought that this might be related to T4 coming into contact with the walls of the stomach. More info in chapter 14 of his book.

He's also mentioned in this page from Dr Myhill's website. Go to the section headed 'Timing of Dosing'.

I know that the usual instructions are to take T4 away from food, but there are also many of us who do take it with food - I take my T4 with breakfast. I suggest that you may find it's worth trying.

We are all different and need to find out what works for us personally.

I hope that this is helpful.

Cut out carbs and processed food. Make sure that you eat good fats, protein, veg, legumes, nuts...It takes a while to get a balance but the fat fills you up so add a bit more if you need to.

It helps me. As soon as I add the bread back, I have to eat more and I drift back to permanent hunger.
