Thanks in advance for any reassurance, but since starting on Levothyroxine I’m really noticing that my hair is falling out much more than usual. Whilst I appreciate this can be a side effect it’s quite unsettling….
I was put on a starting dose of Levothyroxine at 50cmg with a TSH level of 48. My TSH is now at 6 following a recent blood test and my Levo dose has been increased to 75mcg. I’ve been on this new higher dose for a week. I’m due another blood test in 6-8 weeks.
Will this settle down?! Any tips or advice?
Thank you.

Taking levo can, initially, increase conversion of testosterone to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which in some people can cause hair-loss. But this should only be temporary. Things should, indeed, settle down.
Hair loss is also a result of low free Ts in general, so for me it started correcting after a year or so of increasing Levo. So it wasn’t the Levo, but the underlying hashis it was treating, that was the cause.
Alternately, my daughter reversed her hair thinning by addressing her iron anemia.
