I live in the S.W and after being on Amour Thyroid for about 20yrs I have purchased my tablets from a US pharmacy which sometimes mean I have to pay tax on that ,recently it was £46.So last week I paid to see an Endo , privately hoping to get a private prescription so I could get my tablets from the UK.
Well it didn't go well ,she wouldn't entertain the idea and wrote me out one for Levothyroxine ( which does nothing for me ) and T3. She was worried about getting struck off.
Would she be able to write me one for Armour Thyroid ?

When seeing an Endo or any dovtor privately its wise to research their views on whichever therapy you are seeking. Very few will prescribe Armour.
You can email info@thryoiduk.org for a list of Endos. Contact their secretary to see if they will prescribe it or make a post here asking for recommendations in your general area. Remember some do virtual appointments now. The post asking for recommendations will be locked so no information is posted publicly and people can send you a personal message.
I suspect if her initial reaction was just to prescribe Levo then I doubt she will ever prescribe NDT.
Did you ask about T3? You could take Levo + T3 which suits some when NDT becomes prohibitavely expensive.
Sounds like you would be better off contacting Roseway Labs as they can consult, prescribe and dispense, I've no idea what they charge for Armour but the consultation is £60
I’ve recently consulted with Roseway. The initial consult was £55 subsequent ones are £30 (unless this has recently changed.) I take Erfa the Armour equivalent. It cost me £194 for 200 tablets. I take 2 a day (£1.94 a day). They’ve written me two further prescriptions without a consult needed. You’ll need proof of diagnosis and a recent blood test for a consult. Good luck. 💜
That’s actually quite promising if she did. Not many GPs will entertain the idea of prescribing Armour but it reads as though you do have one who might be more open minded than most?
well…she can write the script…but rather that being struck off (we were all on the natural stuff before they made the synthetic version) she or he is likely to be hounded by the funding body (CCC?) For spending too much…. Its around £800 for 6 months supply at 1 grain per day!
You could source your own NDT online without a prescription. Thyroid s is available at a reasonable cost. Many of us on here use it. I have no thyroid and have been using it since 2016.
If you need a source for NDT then do write your own post asking for recommendations. Sources of prescription medications are not allowed to be discussed in the public group but you can send a private message.
I was first put on Armour by DR Peatfield in a Totnes clinic back in the early,2000.He told me to get it from [edited by admin] USA and have done ever since. They have a couple of different makes the one I use ATM is USP
1 .1/2 grain which is90mg
The only thing is that sometimes you have to pay a handling charge by Royal mail, this time it was £46!
I'm in the Cornwall and have been importing NDT from Thailand for 7 years and never had to pay extra - but just this morning received notice of a customs duty and a handling fee on my last purchase which is sitting at Heathrow Airport :
Yes - the cost on NDT from Thailand has also increased substantially but at this same cost - it has never incurred any duties -
I've emailed my supplier in Thailand just to see if the package was sent the same way 'as usual ' - maybe the customs & excise system in the SW has been tightened up ! - anyway - no point being sent back - just need to move on - and be aware !
Contains details of all known desiccated thyroid products including information about several products not considered to be Natural Desiccated Thyroid (NDT/Desiccated Thyroid Extract/DTE).
Just heard back that this shouldn't have happened - my supplier wasn't in Thailand at the time of my despatch and thinks someone didn't fill in the correct form ' their end ' - anyway I now need to wait until I get the delivery to see what forms it was sent with :
