Carbimazole - I’m back from Germany!

hi all

I’m back from the Black Forest in Germany and the ride was great but it was hard and a few bits were noticed or at least repeatedly mentioned - I have to wear head to toe gortex heavy bike gear whilst motorcycling for safety and weather protection but I kept all my inners in and I wasn’t too warm - in fact I was quite cool - I just didn’t really sweat?! Even when anxious during some more “interesting” mountain passes 😂

i was hella tired - it was a busy trip though?! Apparently I just don’t get hungry anymore and needed reminding to eat?! But yet still bloating??? This was more a problem than it should have been because then hen it came to picking food option I didn’t want anything 😕 plus pushing a fully luggaged bike around each day should have seen me lose weight not gain it 🤷‍♀️

I’m going to try and stab myself Monday morning to get blood test done 🤞🏼🥴

lack of appetite, bloating (low stomach acid) and feeling cold suggests you might need to stop Carbimazole as currently only on 2.5mg

See what results show

Hopefully you are testing vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 too

I’ve no idea my more slowdragon knowing me it’ll be the other way 😂

Could only afford this lot of tests this month I’ll try for others next if budget allows 🥰

Request GP do full iron panel test for anaemia including ferritin

And request they test vitamin D, folate and B12

I couldn’t taste it? I’ve just realised the chilli was spicy because my lips were burning but I thought it was odd my mouth wasn’t ie I couldn’t taste the spice? I’ve also eaten things I don’t like usually whilst away (I’m not picky so if there’s no other options etc I will) but … has graves destroyed my taste bugs?? 😭😫

Well done and glad you caught up with friends - as that is a tonic in itself -

and happy that you're back safe and sound -

I knew once you got on the bike you would be able to focus and stop the ' what ifs ' and overthinking -

You must try and eat, try small regular high protein meals otherwise you'll make matters worse for yourself - you can't run on empty :

All these symptoms suggest now - too low a level of thyroid hormones - and this new blood test tomorrow should confirm this - though blood tests tend to run behind symptoms being tolerated by a couple of weeks.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop - onwards and upwards :

It was a good trip although it was still very hard to combat the low moods but the roads are very distracting and the Black Forest is beautiful, and I got some ideas that will help with my sleep (04:30 riser and not much stops it and it’s worse during summer months when lighter).

I made myself go shopping upon my return literally within hours and no mean feat considering the mileage I’ve already done - I’m not hungry but I’m making a large chilli (I don’t eat rice) as I type - once I start eating I’m ok and can eat I’m just not hungry which is odd as I was ALWAYS so damn hungry not so long ago 🥴

Anyway chilli, some rest (although washing of clothing to complete) then an early night because damn it my mates was snoring like a train for the past week and I’m somewhat tired 😂😡😂

I can't remember the last time I felt hungry - and it's all about low stomach acid.

' Normally ' tummy rumbles are caused by this acid reminding you that you are hungry and your body needing food - and the stomach acid then starts breaking down the food and extracting key nutrients in order to repair and replenish the body's structure.

I now take a little Apple Cider Vinegar in warm water before I eat my main protein rich meal to help this process along - but still need supplementing core strength vitamins and minerals to maintain optimal levels.

When hyper some people find they can eat for England and not put weight on - as metabolism is running faster than normal - and all body systems in overdrive :

when hypo the opposite happens - but the weight goes on irrespective of food intake.

My resting heart rate has steadily increased according to Fitbit this week so I think I’m hyper again 😔 I’m not increasing meds though as they make me feel vile …

Sorry to read that - but just try and stay steady - you have achieved and done a lot more this last week than was your ' normal ' -

Monitor of pulse, blood pressure and body temperature AM and PM and see where it's at in a couple of days.

I can’t taste much? Something is wrong 😔

It goes up!

I just had a brainwave and checked my thyroid results (t4) against my resting heart rate and when t4 goes down my resting heart rate has spiked?!

Glad you had a great time - you’re very brave going on ‘interesting’ mountain passes. If there are too many zigzags on the map then to my husband’s great disappointment we don’t go there! I remember meeting a couple of bikers on a campsite in the south of France, they had just arrived and I asked if they weren’t cooked in their leathers in the heat and they said no, they were ok when they were moving - it was when the stopped they felt it.

Good luck on Monday morning - drink some water, wave your arms around or run on the spot, position the lancet on your finger, close your eyes, grit your teeth and go for it 😉

Tried failed multiple times I just freeze each time as predicted - can’t do it - now a three month wait of misery until next blood test and a waste of money I can Ill afford on the test I simply can’t complete 😔

I might have a plan which only leaves me another month rather than three - son should come home from uni then so he might be able to do it - I don’t mind anyone else stabbing me - no issues whatsoever just can’t stab myself can do anything else but stab myself 🤷‍♀️

you’re displaying hypo symptoms and need to be off the carbimazole! I know those feelings well …not even working up a sweat no matter what you do yet being exhausted.

Get yourself to the doc pronto!! Good luck!

I think I’ve gone the other way tbh - my symptoms are the same either way - endo won't see me or test for three months now and if thyroid related gp won’t see me and refers me back to endo 🤷‍♀️
