Dropping to 100 Levo and 20mcg T3 twice daily.

I've just looked at your previous results from three days ago :

Were you taking T3 before? Or is it new?

Only started on 50mcg Levo two months ago

Currently on 150mcg Levo only

Always recommend starting T3 SLOWLY at 5mcg initially and increasing SLOWLY

I am 6"1 which may make a difference. Actually i might have miss readit. Might be 20 a day split!!

I was going to say 20 twice a day is a LOT! Definitely check that.

You're also, as others have said, making very rapid changes. Personally, having been dealing with auto immune hypothyroidism for 40 years, I make changes very slowly. You may experience reactions to your body being hit suddenly with changes it's not prepared for and not get an accurate presentation of how your body action feels on that medication going forward.

Also, for me personally, it takes 3 months for a change of thyroid medication to settle in.

JC Martin,

You only started medicating 25mcg Levo 3 months ago and have risen to 150mcg very quickly.

Research shows biotin risks altering thyroid labs when taken in many thousand mcg (a commonly usual dose is 10,000mcg). Given we obtain small amounts of biotin in our foods every day and you only supplemented an extra 130mcg, I would consider your previous thyroid labs to be true. You obviously thought so too as went on to perform your test.

Therefore, FT3 5.7 (3.1-6.8) - 70.27% and FT4 28.4 (12-22) - 164%.

Many GP’s/endos don’t understand the physiology of T3. Your FT3 levels are already great for a newbie-Levothyroxine-medicater, and you certainly don’t need any more with FT4 over-range. I would suggest leaving off T3 meds, reducing Levo, and waiting several months to assess conversion abilities when the positive effects of addressing iron/nutrient deficiencies can be felt.

Thyroid meds should make you feel better and you have likely felt little relief as have risen your meds so fast, not leaving long enough for assessments, and saying you think you exercised ‘too much’. Overdosing thyroid hormones can at best make you feel ill and at worst be dangerous. They can also impair future good usage of hormone that risks taking months to reverse. Exercising ‘too much’ when we’re trying to build hormone tolerence/resiliencestance is commonly counterproductive.

My Twopenneth,

It would be better to get your levo dose right first and allow time to see how that feels , before contemplating adding any T3.

The current plan is potentially going to end up with you feeling overmedicated AND having issues with 'too much T3 too soon' .

a) 20mcg / day is likely too much to start on .... even if you do need T3 you may only need 5mcg . or 10 mcg .

b) To much T4 lowers conversion to T3... your T4 was too high. so a lower dose of levo may improve T3 a bit anyway .

if it was me , i would lower levo first to 100mcg, wait at least 6 wks preferably 8. then retest . See what T4 / T3 results are then.

Always give any new dose at least 6 weeks before you decide how it feels. Symptoms can be all over the place for the first 4/5 weeks...... ie you may feel undermedicated for first few weeks and then slowly improve as body acclimatises.

I had been on levo 100-150 range for 15 years , not getting Free T4/3 balanced before I started on my T3 with a tiny 1/8 of a 25 mcg pill and immediately felt a ‘surge’ hitting my heart and seized-up hips, so I’d suggest no more than starting on a quarter of your 20 T3 pill for starters. You seem to have a very untypical endocrinologist raising these hormone levels so quickLy and high even if 6 ft plus!

I am happy with my Endo. Maybe i shouldn't post on here as i seem to get told off, but i wanted to keep people updated who had helped me.
