Over the years, we have seen many mentions of povidone-iodine. This video is the first time I have ever come across a proper explanation as to why povidone-iodine is chosen!
It then continues with its aim of extracting pure iodine from povidone-iodine.
The video could be very boring if you are not into things like this. But it is perfectly possible to keep skimming through. And parts of it are actually quite pretty - especially the purple vapour.
The presenter, NileRed, is one of those unusual people who are utterly absorbed by what they are doing but does actually manage quite a bit of humour.
I quite enjoyed watching even though much of the chemistry is miles beyond me.
