I have a blood test in March. Have the test done at 10.30 am my GP Doctor called at 4.30 pm said your test is Normal you need to stay on the same dose of 50 mg and have a blood test next year. Not sure if it’s right kidney advice
same Dose : I have a blood test in March. Have... - Thyroid UK
same Dose
Did you take replacement prior to test?
What was test result, was TSH & FT4 & ?FT3 tested? Or is GP going by TSH
50mg standard starter dose, most need more to feel well.
Are you well?
Annually monitoring is standard, once on a stable continuous dose, but there are many reason to prompt a retest. Change in symptoms, change to diet / weight. New dose, new Levo brand, new medication or treatment for example.
You are legally entitled to printed copies of your blood test results and ranges.
The best way to get access to current and historic blood test results is to register for online access to your medical record and blood test results
UK GP practices are supposed to offer everyone online access for blood test results. Ring and ask if this is available and apply to do so if possible, if it is you may need "enhanced access" to see blood results.
Alternatively ring receptionist and request printed copies of results. Allow couple of days and then go and pick up.
Please add results and ranges if you have them
Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose change or brand change in levothyroxine
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested
Also both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once to see if your hypothyroidism is autoimmune
Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum
Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Far too often GP only tests TSH, which is completely inadequate
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

This is what I was told too (no kidney issues though). I have been filling their inbox with econsults for MONTHS. Took from September until March to get an appointment for hypothyroidism and they are testing for chronic fatigue syndrome.
Getting my own private tests tomorrow.
Adding, I have access to see my results online from the GP.
