Finally got the TRab result tonight and it's normal. My endo was convinced I had Graves as I have Ted. So now he's puzzled what is causing hyperthyroid. Inflammation markers are also normal although my ESR is at the high end of the normal range . Personally I have always said I thought it was the result of a virus. Thoughts?

Negative TRab result
what were your results BEFORE starting on Carbimazole
I only know my T4 results which were 29.4. I need to get results from my GP receptionist!
Suggest you get retested
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested
Also both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once to see if your hypothyroidism is autoimmune
Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 too
I have all of those but since I was on medication on 5mg Carbmizole. T4 /T3 within normal range, TSH suppressed but rising and TPO/TG normal, but B12 and bit D low in normal range.
TSH 0.028 (0.27-4..2), T3 5.7 (3.1-6.8), T4 15.2 (12-22)., Vit D 65.1 (59-520) Vit B12 54.8 (37.5. - 188) ferritin 390 (30-332) folate failed twice
On vit b complex Thorne, selenium, bit D spray red better you and magnesium.
How long before test did you stop Vitamin B complex?
B12 is very low for someone taking B complex
Are you vegetarian?
(Unlikely looking at high ferritin)
You are going to need a separate B12 alongside vitamin B complex

With serum B12 result below 500, (Or active B12 below 70) recommended to be taking a separate B12 supplement
As well as a separate vitamin B Complex
Then once your serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), you may be able to reduce then stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.
If Vegetarian or vegan likely to need ongoing separate B12 few times a week

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12

What virus do you suspect?
From my limited understanding, when viruses are at play in our thyroid problems - it’s a combination of the virus and existing genetics. So the virus triggers the underlying genetic propensity towards an autoimmune response.
There is clearly more to it, and I’m investigating similar on my side, so just curious what virus you think is at play.
So I think I had adenovirus at the start of Jan, recovered and got reinfected ...so started with conjunctivitis and then sickness/headache ....(which has over times of hyperthyroid) but second dose I got more eye issues TED and respiratory infection.
Ah, helpful! So you were fine until the Jan virus and then your bloods went crazy? I wonder can the same thing happen and trigger hypo? Thanks for posting, and I hope it all resolved for you : )
OK then - that's good news for you.
Has the endo discharged you or does he plan anything else ?
Maybe a rerun f your bloods once the Carbimzole is fully out of your system ?
Once the AT drug out of your system your thyroid function should return to your ' normal ' and your tiredness alleviated.
How are your eyes ?
Oh yes great news I was buzzing last night and couldn't sleep for ages. Endo worried about my eyes so think he will consult with the opthalmologist who he knows well. I think he is still wants to investigate the cause ...he thinks my thyroid is slightly swollen but I have no tenderness and I think it's always been like it.Waiting on the rest of my thyroid function results but if all going in the right direction I might suggest going to one 5mg every other day?
Oh - I thought the AT drug would have been stopped - ok then - you could get a pill cutter and chop this 5 mcg tablet in half thereby lowering your daily dose which might make more sense and a softer approach ?
The results only came out last night after my appointment. He may well stop them but I would rather glide off them.
I too was a mystery as to why I became hyper. All antibodies were negative and my nuclear scan showed normal uptake and no nodules - all clear. I’m convinced that the covid jags and potentially menopause did it. I have now come off carbimazole (down to 5mg alternate days) after 18 months. Due bloods in May to check levels.
Did you stop your B complex 7 days before labs? B complex has biotin (B7) in it and, though it's healthy for your body, it will skew your thyroid lab results. Not your actual levels, just the lab results interference. It will cause your TSH to be artificially lower and your FT3 and FT4 artificially higher.
