If you visited a different time zone (-2hrs) for a week, would you adjust your dosage TIMING to match new time zone, or home time zone?

Would appreciate any advice on timing of taking thyroid meds, if travelling to a different time zone.

I will be away for a week where the time zone is 2hrs difference. I normally take my NDT at 6am each day.

Will the timing of taking the thyroid meds matter much for this short trip?

I just don't know if it's something that needs to be carefully managed, or if it really doesn't matter that much since it's a short trip and it's only 2hrs difference....?

Anyone have any advice or experience with this? Thanks for any help you can give!

I just take my thyroid medication to suit the new time zone, and this has suited me well on many long haul trips. I try not to overthink it, just accept that my body adjusts.

After reading a reply by humanbean i was encouraged to take a break from my usual daily dose of vitamins on my annual holiday…. A couple of weeks off didn’t seem to make any difference to my ‘optimal’ levels.

Enjoy your travels Overlooked!

It’s a storage hormone, so it doesn’t matter if you change the timing by a few hours from day to day.

With a small change for a short time the main thing is to remember to take it. If it's part of your routine at a certain time of day, stick with that.

Hi Overlooked , enjoy your trip. i think the answer to your question depends on you. . I take T3, not NDT like you, but I generally would just shift my T3 to the new time zone if it’s only two hours and Im going for a few weeks.. I guess you’ll know how personally you respond to changes in timing. if you are more sensitive to changes could you experiment with shifting by an hour at a time over a few days or you could just shift the whole two hours and see how you are. Good luck.

NDT is naturally slow-release so once you're stable and settled on your regular dose, you shouldn't need to worry about this minor change. Sounds like your habit is to take before breakfast time. Just do that in new time zone.

It really doesn't matter that much. In a perfect world I take my thyroid meds at 5:00am then stay in bed' till 7:30 or 8:00 am. If I oversleep and do not wake up 'till 8:00 am I empty the dishwasher, feed the cats first then the chickens which chews up an hour so that I do not eat my breakfast 'till 9:00am. That is the main thing, take your meds one hour before you eat your breakfast regardless of the time or time zone.
