please can someone give me some advice

I’ve been reducing my medication from 100 to 88 over the last week. I had a small argument with my partner last night and I could not stop crying, uncontrollable ridiculous crying that lasted hours. This morning I’ve woke up exhausted and taken 88 plus a little 6mcg. That little 6 gave me that wave of calm feeling. I look awful and my heart is racing. Could this just be the excess medication leaving my system? That was not like me at all, I feel like I had some sort of break down over nothing. I’m so embarrassed today. Please help I feel so lost

Why are you lowering your dose?

Do you have test results from before the dose change for Free T4 and Free T3 showing over-dosing?

Having a racing heart isn't always a sign of over-dosing, it can happen when Free T3 levels are too low as well as too high.

I lowered because I had some strangely high results. I did feel over medicated but not too much.

My emotions are all over the place I don’t feel myself at all.

Yes I will find the results now and post below , thank you

These were the results humanbean

TSH

0.27 - 4.2

0.021

FREE T3

3.1 - 6.8

7.1

FREE THYROXINE

12 - 22 R

24.1

Perhaps it was a one off I’m not sure.

I did feel quite over heated and very dry. But a million miles better than on 75mcg.

You are clearly overmedicated right now. It may be an idea to lower to 75mcg. Your call.

My own personal tip when I’ve been overmedicated, is to stop hormone for 7 days or as long as can be tolerated. With it being a storage hormone (levo) this should deplete the stores a little before resuming on a lower dose either 88 as you are or 75.

Speaking to an American contact recently they confirmed their practitioners often advise the above too.

Should I be having these emotional reactions from lowering ? I could not stop crying

Any disturbance of hormone can cause a whole host of symptoms, and we must remember that both under and overmedicated symptoms are alike. It is assumed by medical professionals that if overmedicated than we will suffer hyperthyroid symptoms. This is not always the case. For example, both times I have been over medicated I remained cold and I did not have increased heart rate.

I felt very very tired when I was over medicated. I wasn’t hot all the time, I noticed it mainly when I went to bed.

Thank you for replying , I really hope I start to settle

Thank you ! I feel much better today. 12mcg is a big drop , maybe it was that? I’m starting to feel like myself again 😃

Well, you are over medicated but this may not be the whole problem. I think I would be inclined to ask my GP to check the oestrogen and progesterone levels just to rule this out. I hope you feel better soon. Hug,

would you mind me asking why you would check oestrogen and progesterone levels ?

in reply toserenfach

thank you. I just seem to be struggling since changing my dose that’s all

Just that I would burst into tears for all sorts of things, and it turned out my oestrogen levels were low. My thyroid hormones were low too, which did not help. Every time I stopped crying, another wave came over me and gallons of tears again. Over nothing sometimes. A horrible feeling.

Have you been ill recently or a while back? Viral infections can cause an increase in thyroid hormone levels. If that was the case, your hormone levels may come down again once the infection is out of your system. Keep an eye on how you feel, you may have to adjust your hormones again.
