Help with Cortisol test

Dahliasanddaisies profile image

Hello all,

I had a saliva cortisol test done last week. Ive got the results back but with no comments from the clinic. They look okay/normal to me? Apart from the 3rd one?

I was expecting them to be low as I thought I was suffering from adrenal fatigue.

Could anyone advise me on these levels?

Hi, these are unusual looking results, can I ask who you did them with? The ranges are unusual too, normally you’d expect to see a reference range (with 2 numbers), rather than ‘less than’ signs.

Yes I thought they looked weird, I'm not sure on the lab as the Thyroid Clinic ordered the test

Can they not interpret the results for you?

It should also say what time the samples were taken as well, not a range of time. The last sample should be the lowest but the range in that it weird too, unless it was taken into the morning hours where it starts to climb again? Typically this one is taken at bedtime not specifically midnight.

Your first sample should be in the 90% Range and it’s just about 60%. The second should be higher. The Thurs should be taken closest to 4-5pm and be about what it is, but the time range shows 4-8pm so which time was it actually taken? And the 4th might be okay though the number isn’t actually given specifically and the time it was taken isn’t clear?

Thank you for looking. I can't remember the specific times but they weren't the exact times they have on the ranges. Ie I'm sure the morning one I did at 6am (on waking)

I've asked the clinic for an explanation but not got one yet! Quite annoying as it's a £90 test and shows not very much..

This is another view of the results but doesn't give time or anything.

Do you not roughly remember the times you collected samples for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th?

I think it was 11.30am, 3.30pm and 8.30pm (I go to bed very early)

Okay I converted to ng/ml which is how my results come. Your morning cortisol is too low. Your midday is too low. Your third is too low but oddly not too different from the previous. And your nighttime is presumably fine. Do you struggle most with energy around 9-10am until 2pm? Then have a bit more energy in afternoon/eve and no trouble falling asleep? Do you wake up during the night to use the washroom?

You're too kind, thank you! I struggle with energy all day, I have none. I have to lie down after a shower. I usually get to sleep okay but yes I wake at least once in the night x

May want to research "hypoadrenia" and just see if some of the symptoms fit.
