I've used medichecks over the past 4 years and have no reason to doubt their accuracy, but my eldest son has been diagnosed as depressed and the usual anti-depressants have been thrown his way without any further investigations. I'm not anti anti-depressants but I'm very much pro investigation, particualarly if someone is symptomatic. I'd like to order a full male blood test for him and am happy to go ahead with the medichecks version but I know some GP's will not acknowledge the results, so if anyone has any other suggestions on testing labs, I'd be very happy to receive that info. Thanks in advance.

I think the private test sounds like a good starting point, to consider vitamin supplements (if needed) or to discuss anything noted as out of range with the GP to investigate further. My anxiety flared massively when thyroid levels and key were not optimal, so this may be an issue for your son also. A general health assay is useful for checking a wide range of things….. for example if ferritin is low, it’s then worth asking GP for a full iron panel. Many GPs fully understand/ appreciate that patients want to be pro active concerning their health…. Although you are right to point out that some still have a way to go!
Thank you Buddy195, yes that's exactly my thinking. He's only 28 and fit but his mental health has been wavering for a while and I'd just like to rule out any system abnormalities which the NHS won't do on a 28 year old otherwise fit young man, they just throw anti-d's and hope that works. I'll order the medichecks test. Thanks again, that's reassuring.
