Medichecks advice

Hello,

I am planning to do a full thyroid and vitamin test with Medichecks.

Firstly, is there a discount for Thyroid UK members please, and if so, how do I get it?

Also, I think members of this forum might have some advice on when to do the test.

Thank you for your support in advance.

Medichecks information & discount code on this link on TUK page.

Test Monday or Tuesday to avoid weekend post delays.

Test just before 09.00, fast overnight, drink lots of water to hydrate. Stop any biotin supplements 3 days before test, biotin can skew test. Delay replacement dose until after draw.

Thank you, that’s great. I take 10 mcg of liothyronine in the morning. Should I split the dose the day before?

I’m not certain. I think the advice it to split dose & take last part of lio 8 hours before draw.

Levo is 24 hours before draw.

SlowDragon please can you advise on dosing before test.

Also have you been on a consistent unchanged dose for 6 weeks? Testing before allowing an adjusted dose to settle can cause confusion. (The levels are still adjusting)

Yes I have been on a consistent dose for several months now. Thanks

No not at all , just take morning dose day before and after the draw as normal. I am liothyronine only and that's what I was advised by nurse.

presumably you also taking levothyroxine as listed in previous posts

T4 - 100 mcg 4 x week, 125 mcg 3 x week.

10 mcg T3 in the morning.

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

T3 ….day before test split T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day, with last dose approximately 8-12 hours before test

So yes …..split T3 with last dose 8-12 hours before test

Either split as 5mcg, 2.5mcg and 2.5mcg

Or as 2 x 5mcg

vitamin levels

are you currently taking any vitamin supplements

Stop any supplements that contain biotin 5-7 days before test

Perfect, thank you very much. I take olive leaf extract and taurine for blood pressure but assume these are ok if testing for B vitamins and D?
