Cholesterol and UAT

I've received a phone call from my GP commented that I now have a cholesterol problem. Over the phone he talked about 4.5, 3.5 and 2.5 levels. Totally confused but I've emailed to ask for a copy of my results so I can understand better what action I should be taking. Anyway, it got me thinking, is there any connection between our cholesterol and UAT? Anyone with a similar thought?

Non of those numbers sound bad to me! Often if our cholesterol levels are up a bit it can be a sign that we are under replaced in the thyroid department

They seem to be on a big push to get more people on statins

Most definitely a connection. High cholesterol is a symptom, not a disease. And it's usually a symptom of low FT3. In fact, that's how hypothyroidism used to be diagnosed: through cholesterol levels. But that knowledge seems to have got lost somewhere and is no-longer taught in med schools.

So, no, you don't have a 'cholesterol problem'. You have a hypo problem. The cholesterol isn't a problem at all. It doesn't cause heart attacks or strokes, as doctors claim. Cholesterol is a fundamental part of your make-up. Your brain is made of it, your cell walls are made of it, and your sex hormones are made of it. And it doesn't 'clog' your arteries, it heals them. So, don't worry about it. What you need to worry about is your FT3 being too low, because that will cause problems - including a heart attack.

Often raised cholesterol is due to under replacement of thyroid hormones.

What were your latest thyroid results for TSH, FT4 & FT3?

For our thyroid hormone to work well we need OPTIMAL vitamin levels.

What supplements are you taking?

What are your latest results for ferritin, folate, B12 & D3?

Private tests are available, see link for companies offering private blood tests & discount codes, some offer a blood draw service at an extra cost.thyroiduk.org/testing/priva...

There is also a new company offering walk in& mail order blood tests in London, Kent, Sussex & Surrey areas. Check to see if there is a blood test company near you. onedaytests.com/products/ul...

Only do private tests on a Monday or Tuesday to avoid postal delays.

my cholesterol lowered from 6.8 when I was under medicated to 4.9 when I was correctly medicated. There’s a definite link.

My cholesterol plummeted when I was put on T3. My FT3 had been at the very bottom (or below) of the interval. So that might be the cause of your high cholesterol level as well. Do you have the value for your FT3 (with range)? That would be helpful. Cholesterol as a predictor of CVD has become slightly more controversial in recent times, since as many people with high cholesterol seem to die of cardio vascular events as with normal cholesterol. I'm not a big fan of statins, if that's what your gp is pushing for. Personally I had very bad experience with it. I was in excruciating pain from head to toe. I would rather give birth to ten more kids than go on statins ever again. The pain was terrible and in every muscle in my body, even the ones I didn't even know I had. To me statins are dirty drugs with more adverse than positive effects. I think it is better to look for the underlying cause and fix that.

Just listened to a helpful podcast on cholesterol - Dr Ayan Panja saving lives in slow motion podcasts.apple.com/gb/podca...

He doesn’t mention UAT but this might help interpretation of results. Also useful links in the show notes..
