Constant sore throat and voice hoarse recently. Hypothyroidism.
Hi GreenTea23,
I get these symptoms when I'm due to increase my thyroid hormones though I don't take Eltroxin. I also get a sore throat and my voice can sound hoarse.

You use to be on 100mcg levothyroxine
Highly likely now not on high enough dose
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested
Also both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once
Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum
About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high TPO and/or high TG thyroid antibodies
Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s
Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.
Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.
Significant minority of Hashimoto’s patients only have high TG antibodies (thyroglobulin)
Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease
20% of autoimmune thyroid patients never have high thyroid antibodies and ultrasound scan of thyroid can get diagnosis
In U.K. medics hardly ever refer to autoimmune thyroid disease as Hashimoto’s (or Ord’s thyroiditis)
Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Hi GreenTea23
I had the same iissue until my thyroid meds were increased. I've had an 'erratic' thyroid for years with constant sore throats, being investigated for reflux, swollen throat etc till my GP started plotting my thyroid blood tests. By that time I sounded like a pubescent boy whose voice was breaking! It was deep, hoarse and then a squeak! Check if thyroid meds need upping. If it's a GP who checks thyroid meds make appointment for when it's worse in the day? Then they can hear what's happening.
Good luck xx
You might want to try drinking more water with the pills you are taking. I ran into this once and it was because the pill was sticking to my aesophagus(sp) - throat - and getting absorbed a little there each day. I took a little more time in the morning to drink a bit more water (~8 fl oz) and the problem went away. On the days when I am in a hurry in the morning and do not bother to drink sufficient water - the opposite happens, the sore throat comes back.
