Welcome to the forum Bingefood,

So we can offer better advice, can you tell us more about your thyroid condition, eg when you were diagnosed, ongoing symptoms, current medication & dosage, plus blood test results (with ranges in brackets) for:

TSH

FT3

FT4

Plus any antibody and key vitamin tests (ferritin, folate, vitamins D and B12)

If your GP is unable to complete all the above (eg if TSH is within range, some surgeries may not be able to access FT4 and FT3 tests), you could look to do this privately, as many forum members do, for a better picture of your thyroid health:

Welcome!

Are you hyperthyroid?

Hyperthyroidism/ overactive thyroid, is a condition where your thyroid makes and releases high levels of thyroid hormone. This condition can make your metabolism speed up and can cause excessive hunger, amongst other symptoms

Buddy 195 has already explained about testing

Test at 9 am and at least an hour away from food and drinks ( except water)

Post any results you have...or can obtain... these will help us help you

Also....you are legally entitled to request lab results from your surgery...ask at reception.

We're all here to help...just ask

Good luck!

The only thing that helps me is being busy in ways that don't involve being sat at a desk. I have a desk based job and that means i constantly want to eat, especially if it stressed. But weekends are much better.

hi, there are some really nice support groups you can attend online, they are worldwide and you can choose which one you join. They can be very supportive, but I strongly recommend that you are constantly aware that people can take advantage of you when you are not strong, so don't join a cult and don't give them your bank account details 😉

Oddly enough for me, it was the realisation that I was never going to get the energy and elan vital from food that I was looking for. This was some time after getting my hypo diagnosis and the knowledge of the whole metabolism thing. Fighting a fight that could not be won by eating! Just eating was not giving me what I needed. Much of what I was doing with eating was to ‘perk me up’. I spent years and years doing this. Whilst so far (after about a year) I no longer eat all the time, I do get ‘hungry’ and enjoy my food, much more than before.

This has happened despite thyroid hormones NOT being optimal.

I have a ways to go on that.

I think it can be linked with stress and it can definitely be linked with a void of some sort, like, say a partner who does not show or express love in ways that make the other feel loved, lack of validation, and is common with some kinds of childhood experiences.

Hi Bingefood. I assume you are hypo thyroid or hashimoto's . Anyway how I keep flounder under control - is eat a high protein diet - not carnivore. Basically tip the food triangle up side down. I eat real meat(rump/t-bone/chicken/pork/lamb), bacon , meat fats on the real meat, fat marbled steak , olive oil, butter , vegetable , potato's, pumpkin, brown rice, cauliflower , beans, pea's, corn, 2-3 eggs day, one or two slices of gluten free wholemeal toast (real butter and gluten free marmite/vegemite ), prunes, sultanas, oranges, apples, mango's, banana, 70% cooking chocolate, 5-6 shots of real coffee, full cream milk, lots of water, half a glass of wine occasionally . Lunch is normal last nights left overs.

What I don't eat is anything shop/factory/bakery made . High GI foods. Chocolates, ice cream, sugar, white rice, jam, honey, sweetened yogurt, fruit juices, smoothies, McDonald's, KFC, white bread, sausages, pies, pastries, beef patties, artificial sweeteners , coke zero, soda's really anything that leaves that sicky sweet taste in your mouth and you feel hungry in an hour.

40 min of aerobic exercise 6 days a week too. It releases endorphins that make you feel good, sleep well, and have the will /stamina when you are struggling with resisting a jam donut

Not what you're looking for?
