hi

I appreciate your views on my blue horizon results. I have CFS and have been looking into my thyroid, from what I understand these results look fine for thyroid health. However I am concerned about the cortisol test result as I read it should be around 400?

I take ashwaganda but hadn’t taken any for 5 days before test. Could this be lowering my cortisol and should I stop it? I have an appointment with my GP and wonder if I should push for my cortisol to be investigated, or are these results no cause for concern?

my b12 didn’t come back but I have recently tested this and it is over 1000 as I supplement

thanks everyone, Matty

I take the myhill mitochondrial supplements, Ashwaganda and an electrolyte mineral mix and 1000mg vit c and b complex

I suffer from fatigue cold hands and feet and fast heart upon minimal exertion. I don’t tolerate stress well. I am able to do some exercise light weight training and walking.

thanks

I am also taking ferritin as it was at 50 I have managed to raise it to just below 100

When you say you take Ferritin, do you mean iron?

Yes sorry, I have been following the iron protocol and take vit c with ferrous fumerate

Awesome regarding Iron Protocol. So I’m sure you are regularly testing full iron panel and avoiding iron toxicity? I’ll assume yes but I can’t stress enough that iron toxicity causes permanent organ damage.

Now, on to thyroids.

Your TSH is too high - although no doctor and no one would flag that for you. Euthyroid people are around 1 or so. Your TSH over two says that your pituitary is working a little too hard to have the T4/T3 you have. But it’s a really early indicator, especially because….

Your antibodies are ok. Which is not 100% conclusive - as some people with low antibodies do indeed have autoimmune thyroid issues. But in context, right now, this number is good for you.

Which brings us to your free Ts, the most important when it comes to correlating symptoms to a cause. And yours also look pretty good more or less.

Your FT4 is nice and high in range, and your FT3 is in the middle (I’m eyeballing it, so not sure the precise percent through range) but these are Ts aren’t awful although the T3 probably could do well with a little increase.

And your cold hands and feet could certainly be connected to your T3, But I’m not sure if there are other circulation issues … and also I’m not sure what your full iron panel says as I’d be surprised and happy for you if you managed to raise your ferritin that much without having your iron go over.

We don’t actually know that much about you.

Also, there are a bunch of people here who are cortisol experts (I saw your other board’s recent post).

I hope some others weigh in, whatever you are experiencing, the influence of your thyroid is early days. And so likely you will need some good, methodical, horizontal thinking to connect the dots.

Also would my pituitary be linked to my lower than ideal cortisol?

I don’t know… personally I’ve ordered my own cortisol test and am about to start my own self education journey about that! You can definitely search this thyroid board for “cortisol” or “cortisol saliva test” to learn a lot.

The reason I used the word pituitary was to clarify that TSH is made by the pituitary (not the thyroid.) But all our glands are connected in so many ways (especially when they start to fail lol).

As far as I can see you had one post 4 years ago and then this one. I’m not even sure how you are feeling - are your symptom only fatigue, cold hands and some breathlessness?

Are you in the U.K.?

You say you have CFS. What’s that journey been like?

Here is one relevant cortisol post that might be good reading for you:

Hi,

Yeah I came on here a few years ago when o first got ill. I ended up doing a medichecks test and posted results on a Facebook group and someone said they were all fine and my thyroid wasn’t the problem. The results were practically identical to this most recent test I’ve posted here.

I got diagnosed with CFS after feeling horrendous all of 2020 after taking a tetracycline antibiotic. Fatigue, insomnia, afib, muscle twitching, looking pale and grey, cold all the time and dizzy, also pots but my cardiologist kept saying I am on beta blockers already for afib and that’s all he would do for it.

The most success I had was changing my diet to unprocessed mainly meat, eggs, fish nuts fruit and veg which kept my blood sugar steady and most of 2023 I was feeling about 90% I was going to the gym and surfing again, I just would get tired after walking for 30 mins which I felt was the pots cos I could feel the blood pooling in my legs and my HR would be high.

I’ve been following the myhill protocol for a year and understand you add bits to the protocol every so often and now I am on to the thyroid and adrenals.

had some stress before Xmas and my sleep is awful and I’m getting lots of palpitations and fast HR so my GP agreed to refer me to a post specialist which is what Tuesdays appointment is for as he asked a weeks worth of BP and HR readings. but I am going to mention the low cortisol and ask for a test.

I’m not a CFS expert, but how were you going to the gym and surfing while managing your CFS? How were you going to the gym, while at the same time also feeling tired after walking?

Are sleep trouble and palpitations your only symptoms now?

I really appreciate you taking the time to reply to my post. Not sure what to do next….! I have a GP appointment Tuesday and I am going to ask for a cortisol test. I will also be careful with the iron.

Yes I just did a search for cortisol and ended up in an arthritis group! Hopefully someone can weigh in on the cortisol issue.

Im sure you can agree it’s a nightmare trying to navigate this yourself, it’s full time job on its own!

Thanks matty
