Posted earlier to say that the pharmacy changed my tablets to capsules. I received a letter to say that it would be a permanent change from the NHS as they are cheaper. The pharmacy didnt bother to say. This Norfolk and Waveney.

How much T3 do you take per day

What size tablets were you on before

10mcg ?

10mcg tablets are vastly more expensive than 20mcg tablets

If capsules don’t suit…..

Roma capsules are lactose free …..They don’t always suit everyone

Current prices listed here

Yes I have been on 20 per day for about 3 years after seeing endo. I take the morningside tablets. They also said in the letter to make sure to finish the tablets first. The capsules are Roma.

So if you get 20mcg tablets these are significantly cheaper than 2 x 10mcg capsules

Madness

If you want to change prescription back demonstrate cost difference to GP

per 28 days

Morningside 20mcg tablets £40.10

Versus

Roma capsules 2 x 10mcg = £65 x 2 = £130

According to my local Boots chemist (North Surrey) the 20mcg Morningside are £65 for 28 tablets!

What the NHS Drug Tariff lists as the price - and what the pharmacy will get paid - is not necessarily the same as what the pharmacy has to pay their supplier. Which makes for difficulties when the pharmacy would end up making a loss.

However, even if Boots are showing you the price being £65, without knowing things like discounts for volume, etc., you really cannot be sure how much it really costs that Boots pharmacy. And, if it is supplied by Boots' own distribution arm, who knows what profit they are making?

Sorry Helvella, I meant to put £165 per 28 tablets. I was told by the pharmacist that this is what Boots have to pay so that’s quite a mark-up if it’s true. Anyway, thanks for your input on this. I’m just pleased that my GP is prescribing, for now.

That’s the official price paid for capsules not tablets

gojo1 20mcg tablets are now cheaper than 20mcg capsules, so it's false economy for them to do this. Capsules were a little cheaper for a short while when they first came out, but they aren't now.

I help run Thyroid Support Group Norfolk on Facebook. Please join us! We campaigned for 3 long years to get T3 reinstated in Norfolk and we won. We'd like to know more on this as we're still in touch with the Norfolk ICB pharmacy team. This should not be a policy and we can tell them that.
