Finally have confirmation that I'm lacking this gene. Awaiting for Dr to contact me to discuss as the lab not able to share with me! However as I can view/download from my NHS app I could read for myself at least now I'll be able to send to endocrinologist prior to telephone appointment in February. 🤞 All will work out for me, vitamin regime working a treat & feel really well although weight increasing😥 all thanks to you lovely people sharing your knowledge 😁

Its impossible to read the image and I didnt realise that the NHS ran this test.

Can you put the image in a comment reply so it can be read please?

Ops not NHS private firm via Thyroid UK - Regenerus. I'll see if I can do that. Wasn't cheap either.

If you tell your Endo you feel really well they are unlikely to prescribe T3. Just saying.

This I realise & I know I'm not at optimal health! Hope this reads better 1st part of letter. I just need to improve weight as it's now a strain on me plus I'm waiting to see if I have sleep apnea 🤔 see how it goes. Cheers for heads up though.

A bit faint

Of course theres a lot more to having a good FT3 such as cholesterol levels and weight. Many have sleep issues and a good amount of other things if FT3 is left low. Just the NHS isnt going to prescribe T3 for weight loss.

Glad you explained how you did the test. Sad we have to pay ourselves though.

Yes agreed as I struggle with blood test covering ft3 I'm hoping for a scan on my thyroid as I don't think it's functioning & after 20+ years I need to address some other issues not just weight, my cholesterol is high & I have palpitations to name a couple.😃

This is great, it certainly helped get me prescribed T3 from the NHS, looking back at your last results though I wouldn't be surprised if they insist on a T4 increase first unless you have older results that show top of the range fT4 and low fT3?

No I wanted an increase but doctor running frightened of osteoporosis, heart problems etc so get refered to endo I expect a T4 increase as overweight 😊 T3 may prove better though who knows

If you have some spare T4 I'd be inclined to up your dose and see how you feel whilst you wait 🤗

If the Endo offers you some T3 they often make you reduce your T4 regardless of how low it already is!... makes you feel awful after the initial up lift from T3

Oh that's a good idea🤔I do have some 25mcg so I'll consider that thanks👍

If you can get well on T4 alone it's a much easier ride so just so's you know's if you have trialled top end fT4 before starting T3.... it's down to us to find what really works 😉

Your genotype appears to be CT ( blurred,) which means you inherited the Dio2 polymorphism from one parent/ heterozygous

You are not" lacking the gene"...a genetic polymorphism is a variation in the DNA sequences of a gene

Research has shown that a CT variation has less impact on T4 to T3 conversion than if inherited from both parents/ homozygous (CC)

You say you "feel really well" so what are your symptoms that make you feel you need T3?

Many of us feel very unwell and struggle to function but cannot get T3 prescribed...we have no option but to buy our T3 which in some instances is essential to prevent our bodies from shutting down!

You also say, "I just need to improve weight"......the purpose of T3 is not weight loss. An endo won't consider T3 for weight loss especially if you otherwise feel really well

How much levothyroxine are you taking?

If there is room to increase your levo don't be surprised if an endo suggests this.

Good luck!

Hi I'm on 100mcg doc wanted reduction but I refused believe I need more so will chat with endo soon

They are probably dosing by TSH which is not an accurate marker after levo is initiated

Quite right to refuse reduction!

Suggest you increase to 125mcg

Medic's knowledge of thyroid function /T3 is abysmal

Sorry....in haste!

As you have Hashimoto’s….are you on strictly gluten free diet and/or dairy free diet

Excess mucus often improves on dairy free diet

Worth addressing hidden food intolerances BEFORE trialing adding T3

Many members on addition of small dose T3 alongside levothyroxine have heterozygous Dio2
