Hi all,I was wondering if you have had your thyroid removed do you still need Levo?

I am having some problems since on levo and lio.

I was self medicating with lio only and was doing OK, not great, but better than I am now.

I have an appointment at Christies in two weeks and could do with some more info.

Thanks in advance.

Ashquar. What you need is a personal thing. There are folks on here who are on t3 only and who cannot tolerate levo. greygoose may come along as she has experience of trying different hormones.

How much T3 when on T3 only

Please add results

What are you taking now

How much levothyroxine

How much T3

Which brands

Essential to test vitamin levels too

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

On T3 - day before test split T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day with last dose 8-12 hours before test

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Showed you were not on high enough dose T3

Might have needed higher dose Levo too

Many on levothyroxine plus T3 find they need BOTH Ft4 and Ft3 roughly 70% through the range

There are members without functioning thyroids who are on T3-only.
