Thyrozine and co-codamol

I've been taking thyrozine for years and have just been prescribed co-codamol, I was meant to believe that it's not save to take. Has anyone else been prescribed this and taken it?

I have taken co-codamol alongside levothyroxine. Can't say I noticed anything specific in relation to levothyroxine but I was already feeling pretty ill at the time!

(One thing perplexes me! Your profile shows you as being in the United Kingdom. But Thyrozine - everywhere I found it - is a veterinary form of levothyroxine.)

I am in the UK Sorry that should have said Levothyrozine

Some people find anything with codeine can cause constipation which would not be good if you already have any such issues.

I have to take cocodamol for pain caused by arthritis in my hip and back and, apart from the issues helvella mentioned above with constipation (which I find Polo mints are quite useful for!) I have no further complications.

🤣 OK, I just have to ask... which of the ingredients are useful for constipation: Sugar, Glucose Syrup, Modified Starch, Stearic Acid, Mint Oils?

Or is it the sugar free version with sorbitol? (Ingredients: Sorbitol, Magnesium Stearate, Mint Oils)

I haven’t a clue, I’m assuming it’s a combination of all those… it’s certainly not the sugar free version 🤢 I just find a few of them (mix of originals and spearmint flavoured ones) helps keep things moving in the bowel department. Jellybabies are quite good too! 😂

Maybe not Red Apple. When my son was a baby he had very severe colic cried all the time. The consultant said he had an immature digestive tract causing poor mobility in the intestinal track. His solution was to suggest I put a teaspoon of dark molasses in his bottle and manually relieve my baby of his constipation. At the time I couldn't breast feed him as my milk never came in due to severe blood loss during childbirth. (Era of early Aids discovery so couldn't blood transfusion as they couldn't test blood for Aids).I was horrified at the idea of putting molasses in his bottle but desperate enough to try. It did help though.

He was right about the immature gut track too....

'dark molasses' as in black treacle?

No its a very dark sugar. It filled me with horror giving it to him..... I had visions of rotten teeth. Now you'd think he would grow up to have a very sweet tooth. Not at all much prefers savoury. 37 & very healthy. In fairness as soon as the colic eased I laid off the sugar. I did have to delay weaning too, he couldnt do the usual little tasters of pureed food either that you do for little ones (now back in apparantly as they've found it reduces allergies) or it triggered colic. But then one day as I did the dreaded once per week test of a tint bit of home pureed food he was fine.... And lept onwards from that... amazing to watch. The paedetricians diagnosis was spot on.

RedApple apparently molasses is the first extraction of sugar cane in the refining process; then treacle, then golden syrup.

Years ago, I was told that a solution of sugar water would fix constipation in babies.

For my little on it didn't fully resolve it but definately helped. I'd never heard of it before.

From memory, it was only meant to be a last-ditch solution and not to be used constantly.

Good to know it helped somewhat with your young 'un.

Excuse or not… all I know is that it works for me! Just passing on my experience which may or may not help someone else.

Hi Kjpizza, I have terrible much worse constipation since having to take tramadol for my hip and back arthritis, nothing seems to help apart from laxatives which i do not want to take daily. I'll have to give your polos a go 😁. Xx

Hiya it wasn't me who suggested polos, but I do take actimel daily which seems to help me, my daughter who has EDS also takes them occasionally when she's having problems. So maybe try that too.

For me it is grapes. I love grapes. If I dont eat any, nothing happens if you know what I mean. 10 grapes and all is fine. 20 grapes and vesuvius erupts!

I take 120mg daily of dihydrocodeine tablets, and have done for at least 22years. Without them I wouldn't make it to the toilet in time. I have a leaky gut. I need them for pain from spinal problems etc., but cannot do without them bowel wise either. 120mg daily does not constipate me in the least.

If you have IBS or a leaky gut, you may find the codeine helpful.

If you are normally constipated, I think codeine would make you more constipated.
