I have just been diagnosed with Eosinophilic esophagitis on top of hashimotos. I have been prescribed PPI for 2 months. Are these linked?

Floss76,

I don't think they are linked other than they are both autoimmune diseases.

Thank you for your reply Clutter. I have an appt with Gastro on 17/10, so will hopefully get more info.

Are you sure it's not low stomach acid, that is very common when hypo

Masses of posts on here about this and how to cure it

Has virtually identical symptoms to high stomach acid, but very different treatment

Just looked at your previous post

You are very under medicated with TSH of 5

And have Hashimoto's

Have you had your Levo dose increased? Should have had 25mcg dose increase and retest in 6-8 weeks

You also need your vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 checked

Pity you didn't get these done on Medichecks test

Ferritin likely low with heavy periods - push doctor to test

Vitamin D - private test available for £28

vitamindtest.org.uk

Just realised you are not actually on Levo at all yet?

Would suggest you email Louise at Thyroid UK for list of recommended thyroid specialists.

louise.roberts@thyroiduk.org.uk

If you really can not get a GP to treat you, but with TSH above range and very high antibodies you should be treated

Thank you for your reply SlowDragon, I am currently on Ferrous fumerate and now Omeprazole, but nothing for the thyroid. I hope to address this with my next appt.

Omeprazole is terrible for lowering vitamins

Read up about low stomach acid

Look at all the posts on here about low stomach acid

Suggest you do the low stomach acid test before starting omeprazole
