Proximal Myopathy

Is anyone else suffering with proximal myopathy affecting back, neck shoulder muscles and joints? I'm fed up of the pain despite physio exercises and swimming at a gentle pace. Will it ever go away? Diagnosed with Autoimmune Thyrotoxicosis in September and now in erythroid range.

Just being in so-called 'euthyroid' ranges is meaningless, because the ranges are a bit of a farce. Can you give us the actual numbers, please: results and ranges?

You probably haven't even had all the correct testing done because doctors/labs rarely do it all - and probably have no idea what they ought to be testing. A full thyroid panel is something like this:

TSH

FT4

FT3

Antibodies no point because you already know you have Hashi's

vit D

vit B12

folate

ferritin

Your probably have low nutrient levels - if not full-blown deficiencies - and these can cause a lot of pain, along with low thyroid hormone levels. :)

greygoose is on point BananaFeast .

What the doctors think they know through following guidelines (in good faith I might add) does not in any way, shape or form reflect the reality for many people.

Definitely got this going on. I think my stamina around this issue has recently improved, even although my thyroid status remains sub optimal. I doubled my Vit D and K and this has helped. Takes longer for the proximal muscles to reach screaming point and recovery rate is also improved, so I can actually get some chores done! On waking you would think I had done heavy duty at the gym the day before (every day), like lactic acid build up in the muscles. It’s not disappeared only improved so far. In the end I gave up on the physio due to the after pain and just let the muscles rest. I am no better or worse without the physio and I have been a great ‘believer’ in physio/exercise. Really the lack of proper thyroid levels I think are the real issue.

I think personally,

When untreated any physical problems I had either didn’t clear up or got worse. At one stage I felt like I was literally falling apart at 47-48. I’m 55 now and feeling better than I have in yonks but it took me a couple years to get here even though I got to therapeutic levels on everything relatively quickly after diagnosis. I felt improved and functioning at that point.

I hadn’t realised things could get better still. Now, my battles seem more age related. That’s fine we all creak a bit 😂👍

I have no idea whether my stuff is age related. It is reasonable to assume so but I have been ill for so long, it’s always been a ‘fight’. I am not sure I can trust my ‘perception’ of my age. (71). I am so pleased to know you have continued to improve. Others have too. I mostly remain optimistic.

Low FT3 can cause this. I had exactly the same when my FT3 dropped to 2.76 usually 6.plus.
