Hello,
I’ve had issues with my ferritin being low, even though I’ve been supplementing with iron for a while. Has anyone tried dissecated liver to get their iron levels up? If so, do you have one that you would recommend?
Hello,

I personally haven’t but I’m sure someone will be along soon who is a bit more clued up on all things iron😉
How are you actually feeling and is there anything else health-wise you are dealing with?
Have you had any tests that you share onto this post? You can add them if you hit the edit at the bottom of your post comment - or you can hit edit and then add one image just make sure there is no personal information on it. 😊👍
The only symptom that I experience related to low iron is hair falling off. My latest ferritin level was at 34.7 even with iron supplements.
That needs unpicking by someone more clued up on iron. It’s not simply a case of taking more iron and levels automatically rise. I will tag a few people in, but you can use the search function on here to look at discussions on iron deficiency. Like this I just put iron in the search bar and hit go.

It is though important to get a full iron panel done to get the full picture…

Real chicken livers might be better than dessicated. Twice a week is recommended.
This supplement has been used by quite a few members with great success. Take it with orange juice to help absorption and 4 hours away from Levo or other supplements.
Everywhere I read when researching my low ferritin ( 22 ) suggested ferritin needed to be over 70 for any thyroid hormone replacement to work well :
I couldn't tolerate the NHS prescribed tablets and purchased Solgar Gentle Iron - but on reading up later presume any Iron Bisgylcinate supplement would be kinder on your stomach.
I also ate liver twice a week - and it took over a year to build back up and tip my ferritin over 70 :
I now maintain ferritin at around 100 and have found chicken livers a very good option to any tablets -
Sadly I can only find packs of Frozen chicken livers in Waitrose - Asda used to be No 1 for me - anyway -
Defrost and flash fry in a little olive oil and then whizz down into a pate -
add a little Mayo if it looks too dry - and store in the fridge in an old jam jar -
I find a spoonful a day and mixed with a generous helping of Hellmans Mayo helps this medicine go down and keep my ferritin up.
Too much liver can result in excess vitamin A.
