Firstly I saw gp on Nov 9th she told me I need to be seen by an endocrinologist as urgent referral, she also stopped my T3 medication saying "you will get the feferal before your T3 runs out" this is because of your last blood work (hypo) πŸ˜‚.I explained I've got around 7/8 days supply leftπŸ™„ just got the appointment today... Firstly it's the one endo I definitely didn't want, and second it's on 27th Dec.. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.

Well here's another fight to get my T3, until I see the endo.... You just can't make this πŸ’©up.. We are treated so badly by the very people who are supposed to be here to help us.. πŸ€·β€β™€οΈπŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

To true... ☹️.... But on the other hand... I'd like to tackle her on my recent diagnosis of primary hyperparathyroidism, by a specialist in Liverpool. After she said twice I don't have the condition πŸ‘

The specialist looked over the same blood work this endo looked atπŸ™„ and she commented.... "Is she blind"..... "You most definitely have this condition"

And the fact a mass as been found in my right thyroid bed, and I've just had a FNB done at Liverpool πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Will be interesting to see what she thinks of all thatπŸ‘....... What the hell am I saying... I forget... Endos think there gods... And she's no exception 😠

I'm flipping dreading it.. ☹️

She'll probably try to treat you for diabetes.

Just had my blood sugars done.... Not diabetic.... But I wouldn't be the least bit surprised Lalatoot... πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

What are you doing re your thyroid meds? Have you contacted the pharmacist at your surgery?

birkie profile image
birkie in reply to 1tuppence

Contacting the surgery tomorrow, I just know I will have a fight on my hands.. It always goes like this..... "Sorry no Dr available"."Well I need someone to pass an urgent message on to the gp I spoke to on the 9th of nov"

She stopped my thyroid medication, until I see the endo, I had 7/8days left then.. So I've run out" endo appointment is or 27th decπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

(Actually I found a strip of 20mg in my draw, I'm splitting them in to 10s but there's only 7 in the strip, not going to mention that πŸ™„)

Then it goes... Sorry you will need to contact the surgery between 8am and 9am to try to make a phone appointment with a gp.

Ring between 8am 9am...and it rings then cuts you off... Go bk to see receptionist... And the cycle starts all over again πŸ™„πŸ™„ honestly no joke!!

As I say... They just couldn't care less... About our care... 😠😠😠😠

No, birkie...non of it is a joke. It's actually scandalous.......

Have you considered taking a letter with you, addressed to the practice manager, explaining your now desperate situation, and asking for their life saving suggestions?

birkie profile image
birkie in reply to 1tuppence

Well I've done that before.. last year, wrote to practice manager explaining my frustration with the surgery in obtaining my medication and not being able to speak to someone in relation to the problems. They said they never received any letter, (I handed it in to reception)

Here's an even better one, before we merged with this monstrosity of a surgery, I was in a gp practice (head of practice was a monster, he's come to this other practice, he does 2 days a week, semi retired nowπŸ™„... I wrote to his practice manager and sent it recorded delivery, I still have the post office receipt.... Still refused to acknowledge I sent any letter, then said they must have lost itπŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ.. Bunch of u- professionals the lot of them.

Honestly my only option is to try to let this gp know the appointment isn't till Dec 27th see if she's OK with that, then either as you say put it in writing to this gp that I now have no T3 left and hope they respond ASAP....... 🀭🀭🀭 Who I'm I kidding, it will be a fight πŸ₯Š

birkie in reply to 1tuppence

Just to reiterate, my surgery don't consider my hypothyroidism (now hypo through blood tests) to be of any consequence, I did tell the receptionist at one point "I don't have a thyroid so I totally rely on thyroid hormones, if I can't obtain them by not seeing a gp then this can affect my health wouldn't that be considered as an emergency appointment with a gp"Receptionist.... "No we don't consider that an emergency"

Me.. "But you would if I was diabetic and couldn't obtain insulin"

Sent on my way to ring up between 8am and 9am..😠😠😠

Oh birkie, I'm so sorry. What else can I say, other than in spirit I'm right beside you, and I'd imagine we'll be backed by many others on here. Hugs xx

Wishing you loads of luck...your treatment has been a monumental scandal.

How can supposedly educated medics get things so wrong.

Every move seems to be against thyroid patients...

it beggars belief

Do your surgery offer Livi appointments. A lot do now, they are free if your surgery is involved with them. They offer phone/ video consultations using the app. You need to give permission for them to access your GP records and go through some security measures.

They are all UK registered GP's and you can pre book appointments or get emergency ones. They can do referrals prescriptions, order tests etc. The CQC rated them as outstanding.

I have used them several times and they are excellent. As GP surgeries are struggling to offer enough appointments to patients Livi is be becoming a very viable alternative. I'm just wondering if getting a different GP involved would help?

My surgery is absolutely pathetic, it's got the worst rating for a surgery in my town,, with almost every complaint being not able to get in contact with the surgery, the second being no appointments available πŸ™„.. I've looked at moving, but this is a very small town we only have a couple of surgerys, and there rating aren't much better either... (Sort of out the fire into the frying pan) .. We're so far in the middle ages I think some doctors are still using leeches πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Please don't knock leeches they actually work.

Hi birkie,

Is there any other way of contacting your surgery?

Mine won't allow direct email contact but as I don't really want to be triaged by phone through reception I use the alternatives provided.

They offer e-consult, Patient Access and most recently PATCHES. You then message the surgery through one of the applications with your health issue or request (no phone call required which for me is a bonus!) and you also state how you want to be contacted in return email or by phone. Then reception call or email you back and state when the GP will contact you or if a face to face is necessary and book you in.

I find it works well as I have much anxiety surrounding the surgery and their under treatment/denial of my thyroid condition so struggle with ringing them. But I feel much more in control doing it this way. I'm only on T4 so haven't the battle you have but it may be an idea to explore what other contact options the surgery provides.

Best wishes.

Well I was thinking of driving a tank through the front doorπŸ˜‚ that would get there attention.I've tried in vain to download what they say is the gp app, I'm not good at apps or computers, everytime I tried it locked me out, and I have to ask for the link to be re- sent😠 so the only alternative is to either call in in person, or call by phone.

This is a very small town, the surgery don't have access to much, can't even see results of bloods without having to go get the print out, then the receptionist looks at me like I've asked for Β£1000 quidπŸ™„πŸ™„

I think then a tank through the front door is your best option 🀣

Go to the surgery, tell them you have a life threatening condition (which you do) and if they cannot sort your prescription out then and there, you are going to A+E now, as by the Endo appointment you will be in a coma and not able to go.

A+E get very cross if a GP practice takes their time for what should be routine care. The GP practice know this. It really is awful that it comes to this.

A friend with heart problems could not get a repeat prescription because no one in the practice could be bothered. She went to the surgery and lied on the floor and would not move until she got her prescription. They called the police, who came, listened to her and demanded her prescription then and there. She got it, but was banned from the surgery.

Where did the care go?

birkie profile image
birkie in reply to serenfach

Why the hell should we have to do this, that poor person you know had to lie down on the surgery floor in order to get her very needed prescription, she was looking out for her own health, pitty the surgery didn't do this.. No they banned her😠... NICE... I was told some months ago if I didn't like the service I could look for another surgery 😲... I was gobsmacked, so.. You'd rather do a crap service than improve it to help patients. The NHS as gone to hell in a hand basket😠😠😠😠
