Private IV Drips & Jabs for Vitamin & Mineral Deficiency

Hi,

I recently saw a private endo for my thyroid and she suspects I have vitamin deficiencies and I’m booked in for tests.

I’ve seen some adverts for private drips and jabs for various deficiencies in London and I was wondering if anyone had tried these? I’m a bit fed up with taking so many tablets and whilst I know I’ll have to keep taking a maintenance dose I like the idea of a quick boost!

Thank you.

I've never heard of drips and jabs for improving vitamins and minerals (apart from B12 and iron), but if you do find out about them and they work, can you let us all know.

I would also be interested in knowing where you get testing done for minerals and vitamins, and what they cost.

The test packages from private companies often offer a very limited number of tests for nutrients and they are often eye-wateringly expensive.

Humanbean.... There's all sorts of cocktails of vitamin mineral boost done via drip infusion. It's fashionable. How good they are don't know. 😊😊msdmanuals.com/en-gb/home/s...

I hadn't heard that. But then I haven't done anything fashionable for decades. :D

There are loads of these around. Harvey Nicols and others. They are very trendy amongst sporty and people looking to improve skin hair and nails.

Thanks both. My endo has booked me into a clinic in London called HCA labs for the blood tests. I’m very fortunate that I have BUPA and they are covering it all. I’ll mention these drips and jabs to my endo when she gives me my results and let you all know what she thinks of those. My hairdresser has them done and said he feels amazing afterwards but he’s young and fit!

Some years ago I did try a vitamin drip but have to say it made no difference to how I feel. It depends if having not tested you then get lucky and the drip contains something you need.

They can give people a boost for sure, but being hypo we would need that on a regular basis and to ensure that what we are low in is included in the drip.

Hi personally I havnt tried these but my daughter has. Since removal of her Gall bladder she seems to be unable to absorb most vitamins orally. She receives vit D injections from her GP but has sourced infusions privately. She generally uses a clinic who infuse a mixed vitamin bag topped up with B12 & can add other things she is deficient in. She also managed to find a place in Manchester for Ferritin infusion. The only one she is unable to access so far is folate which she desperately needs as her levels aren’t even readable. She feels a lot better after them however they do need to be repeated regularly. She pays £250 each infusion.

Great, thank you. I’ll wait and see what deficiencies I have and how low they are but am very tempted. I can’t see folate on the Reviv website. I’ve also been looking at Effect Doctors and that doesn’t have it listed but they offer a bespoke service so not sure if they could do it.

Hi yes that s the only thing she is struggling to find. Sure has sourced some Folic acid injections on line which havnt yet arrived. Typically it’s the thing she needs most. She was wondering if the might add it at her next visit. B12 injections seem readily available at some beauticians. Good luck.

I can't speak to the short term boost, but if you have a lot of vitamin deficiencies, it might be worthwhile to look at why. If your diet is good, are you not absorbing that which you eat, and why?

Thanks, I think this is something a lot of us on this board struggle with. I’ve read that thyroid issues can cause low stomach acid which hampers the absorption of nutrients from our food. My diet is good - I did the Zoe project and have seen a dietitian in the past. I think the issue for me is under medication for my thyroid and a major op in the summer. But, I’ll be discussing with my endo when I get the results back.

Unfortunately a good diet is not a preventative measure for the low vitamin levels caused by being hypo.

I'd highly recommend you get your levels checked for ferritin, folate, B12 & D3.

See link for companies offering private blood tests & discount codes, some offer a blood draw service at an extra cost.thyroiduk.org/testing/priva...

There is also a new company offering walk in (includes free blood draw) & mail order blood tests in London, Kent, Sussex & Surrey areas. Check to see if there is a blood test company near you. onedaytests.com/products/ul...

Only do private tests on a Monday or Tuesday to avoid postal delays.

I would love to be able to have an iron infusion privately but I have no idea how one goes about sourcing it privately.

Just do a web search for "iron infusion near me" or "iron infusion in your county" or "private iron infusion uk" and see what comes up.

I know of this one in London :

If I'd known about private iron infusions when I was trying to raise my iron I would have chosen to have one rather than taking iron pills.

I tried and come up with nothing but for that London clinic. That’s what annoys me. It seems simple and yet my results are useless.

I had an iron infusion a few years ago. I think my GP referred me to a haematologist at my local private Spire hospital who organised it. I felt like I had flu afterwards but felt great a few weeks later.

Know what you mean about being sick of taking so many tablets.

Watching thread with interest.

Vitamin drips are expensive pee unless you are receiving a specific preparation for a specific deficiency! Yep they are fashionable but at best useless and at worse potentially harmful (there is evidence that excess A,C or E can be harmful, for example).

For confirmed low Iron or Ferritin I recommend the Iron Clinic in London - cheaper than the Spire etc as it’s set up as a clinical trial.

Note that the reason for low iron or ferritin should always be investigated too. Similarly if low B12 - check for pernicious anaemia.

If you don’t want to take more tablets, have you thought of the sprays? I use Betteryou for VitD + k2, B12 and iron, they’re very good, my levels are excellent using them.
