Well, I’ve seen everything now. My local pharmacy has a display of self testing kits for a number of conditions. One of which is a finger prick test for Hypothyroidism, self testing TSH at £9.99!

Those simple tests just determine whether your TSH is under or over 5.
Worse than useless. They could very easily make someone think they are fine (e.g. result would have been 4.9 on a lab test) and provide false reassurance.
Worse than that, I thought this type of test would help in between NHS tests when I was extremely hypo whilst trying to get my medication levels sorted out. They consistently said I was not hypo when I very clearly was as I had a TSH of over 50 according to the NHS results. I threw the remainder form the bulk pack in the bin.
That is awful - even worse.
I assume the bin has been emptied and you can't now send them to the MHRA. They cover devices (such as these) as well as medicines. And I'd like to see such appalling products driven off the market with due legal actions as appropriate.
That is a very good point, it was many months ago and unfortunately I was very ill at the time and my brain was not fully in gear then. I did however write a scathing online review warning others not to use them. I occasionally still do a finger prick test but I only use monitor “my health tests”, these are processed in a NHS lab and so I know they are to the same standard as my doctors tests.
I took mum for her covid booster. I saw vitamin D, B12, ferritin tests all on the shelves. One of them was a finger prick and send the sample away, the others looked like the lateral flow tests, so would give a positive/negative result, i.e. over/under a nominal figure.
