I was diagnosed with diabetes 23 years ago. At some point I was popped on to metformin. It caused lactate acidosis so they reduced it - still felt exhausted etc.. Anyway I had to have a major operation and was taken off it. I was kept off it due to the need to be resuscitated during the operation. That was when hyperthyroidism kicked in. I have since found out I have had this for a while, but when doing my thyroid function blood test they should have been making adjustments for metformin as it it affects the results. Has anyone else experienced this?

Metformin
Metformin often lowers TSH and vitamins, especially B12 and magnesium

Has your GP done *full* thyroid blood testing since you've *not* been taking metformin? If only TSH has been tested and found to be below range, that is not a definite indicator of hypERthyroidism. FT4 or FT3 (or both) need to also be above range for hypERthyroidism.
My endocrinologist did the full tests I was already seeing her as I have tumours on my adrenals. The TSH had come back and they had to do some emergency tests whereby thyroitoxinisis, hypercalcemia (parathyroid also) and automone disorder were also diagnosed. No one had done tests further that TSH in the past,
