Thybon/Regular T3 Vs. Slow-Release T3?

Hi,

I've been on regular T3 for a while (Thybon), but my endocrinologist would like to put me on Slow-Release T3.

Does anyone have experience with this? Is there much difference between the two? I ask because I think the latter will be quite a bit more expensive, so if the difference is negligible I don't want to waste a load of money.

Any thoughts or advice appreciated!

I started on SR t3 a few weeks ago and, so far, I much prefer it. I'm super sensitive to pretty much everything and I found the 'rush' from regular t3 uncomfortable. Although I'm supposed to take it just once a day, I'm still splitting my dosage into three, eight hours apart, as I'm too wary to try just the one dose. It does what it says and is an even, sustained release with no noticeable dips or peaks.

On the negative side, I don't seem to be absorbing it that well and my blood tests and symptoms say that my ft3 levels have dropped quite significantly, despite being on a higher dose.

Interesting that you're not absorbing the slow release as well as regular T3. How much did you increase your dose when switching to the SR? I'm torn on the pros and cons of switching. Obviously don't want my T3 levels to drop!

I was on 25mcg of Grossman t3 and every time I tried raising it beyond that, even when split across four doses, I couldn't tolerate it. My cranky body has also relatively recently decided that it will no longer accept t4 (Aristo) and even a small amount now causes horrendous sweating, anxiety and chest twinges.

I'm up to 50mcg of the SR t3 now with no overt issues but my last blood test on 40mcg showed that my t3 had dropped from 27% (on 25 Grossman) to 19%. Although that could be partly explained by the t4 leaving my system.

why not just take 3 or 4 smaller doses spread through the day

How much T3 are you currently taking

I already split my T3 into 3 doses. I take 30mg. I wonder if there will be much difference in the SR T3.

How much levothyroxine are you taking

What are most recent Ft4 and Ft3 results

Are all vitamins at optimal level

I have found it better to split T3 as 4 doses

I take no levo as I seem not to tolerate it (get hyperthyroid symptoms), so only taking T3 currently. T4 is low, T3 is okay currently, TSH is high and antibodies are high. Can't remember exact numbers.

Vitamins are all optimal yes.

if ONLY taking T3 that’s likely not high enough dose

Between 40mcg-60mcg daily is more typical

Day before test last dose T3 at 8-12 hours before test

What are most recent TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 results and ranges

high antibodies confirms Hashimoto’s

Are you on strictly gluten free/dairy free diet

Exactly what vitamin supplements are you taking

If you search the forum, there have been many posts about slow release T3. I don't take T3 at all so cannot contribute any experience but try following this link to a search:

All slow release products tend to reduce the maximum amount that can be absorbed from a given dose. The big difficulty is in assessing that difference, compensating by increasing the dose, and appreciating that such things can be variable.
