A long shot maybe, but possibly the morning swelling and 'constant gunge in throat' could be 'silent reflux', caused by weakened muscles due to excess thyroid hormone. Interesting article here britishvoiceassociation.org...
You could look up "postnasal drip" to see if that fits your symptoms.
I've had times in my life when this was a huge irritation. I used to smoke heavily and so mucus in my lungs, throat, and sinuses was a common problem, although giving up smoking helped.
If you think there is any connection with your lungs and/or mucus from your lungs then a helpful supplement that thins out mucus and makes it easier to cough up is NAC. This supplement doesn't work quickly for me. It usually takes 2 - 3 days of treatment before I can cough anything up. (I don't take NAC all the time, although I think I will start doing that soon.)
NAC = N-Acetyl Cysteine or Acetylcysteine or N-Acetylcysteine
I also bought myself a nebuliser and I use it with saline ampoules to help clear stuff out. The combination of the NAC and the nebuliser has improved my O2 saturation which got reduced a lot as a result of having quite severe Covid in 2021.
