Aristo Levothyroxine

Hi all. My levothyroxine was changed to Aristo brand. Which suited me. Then the usual the pharmacy could only get it whenever. But now they have given me Aristo Vencamil Levothyroxine, with no problem getting that. But I can't find any information on what the difference is. Does anyone have any experience of this brand. The reason for asking is that I have put on loads of weight.

Thank you.

It is one and the same, they have just given it a name so that it can be prescribed under that name... so same product different box

Have you noticed any difference in your results?

Aristo and Aristo Vencamil are identical….just a rename of same product

Perhaps you need dose adjustment in levothyroxine

How long since you tested thyroid and vitamin levels

Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose change or brand change in levothyroxine

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested

Also both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

If also On T3 - day before test split T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day with last dose 8-12 hours before test

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Thank you for your reply. It has been about 6 months since I had a blood test.

I have had a few illnesses this year of which I was treated with steroids. And I am on high blood pressure tabs.

Steroids will reduce TSH

Essential to test TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 plus retest vitamin levels at least annually

Thank you for that. I will.Sorry for delay in replying.

I, too, like Aristo. :-)

The reason for the "branding" as Vencamil is so that it can readily be prescribed.

helvella's medicines documents (UK and Rest of the World) can be found here:

helvella - Thyroid Hormone Medicines

helvella has created, and tries to maintain, documents containing details of all thyroid hormone medicines in the UK and, in less detail, many others around the world.

This link takes you to a page which has direct links to the documents from Dropbox and Google Drive, and QR codes to make it easy to access from phones.

The UK document contains up-to-date versions of the Summary Matrix for tablets, oral solutions and liothyronine available in the UK.
