This is a 35 minute lecture on the thyroid gland and hormones with lots of comments from grateful university students because it is well-explained.
You don't need to know a huge amount about biology to get some benefit from this lecture but a basic understanding will be helpful.
I thought is was worth watching even if it wasn't 100% perfect - and the subtitles are a bit dodgy in places.
Ooops - 150 micrograms of iodine is about 1/6 of a milligram - not of a gram!
And 5000 micrograms is only 5 milligrams - not 5 grams!
Very much agree that he is a good explainer - human and with cadence! Unlike the robotic voices many videos have.
Thank you humanbean, that was really interesting, I’ve noted some of the effects he mentions, eg cholesterol as those dots haven’t been joined by my practice. Wish he’d included medical intervention as a cause of primary hypothyroidism too.
I was sitting, pen in hand, waiting for the numbers for T3 needed after he’d explained you need 5000 (50mg?) T4 daily!
Is there a follow up on the symptoms and management that goes beyond the rigid set list trotted out by the nhs?
I thought he was very watchable and explained the incredibly complicated process very well.
As helvella said in his reply it would appear that the lecturer has some problems with numbers!
