Generally the cheapest way is as part of a thyroid/vitamin bundle. Check out Medichecks, Blue Horizon and Monitor My Health.

MMH Full Health Screen is cheapest at £65 less 10% and includes Active B12.

Medichecks Advanced Thyroid Function test is £86 less 10% and included Active B12.

Blue Horizon Premium Gold is £139 less 30% and includes Total B12 (some say Active B12 is the better test).

Details of codes here (click on each company):

Check what other tests are included to help determine which test you'd prefer.

Ooh, looks like RedApple has found a cheaper test without the thyroid ones, I didn't know about that one!

I think this reply is for your other thread, it has nothing to do with the test you're asking about.

Do you currently take levothyroxine when you wake up, or at bedtime?

I would try taking levothyroxine at bedtime when cortisol is lowest

Levothyroxine at bedtime often gives better results

Also has the advantage that you could take propranolol in morning (if necessary) and it would be well away from levothyroxine

Or

try taking half your levothyroxine at bedtime and half in morning

Cut 100mcg in half and take 75mcg in morning and take 67.5mcg at bedtime

If taking levothyroxine at bedtime move magnesium to late afternoon or early evening…..at least 4 hours away from levothyroxine

When comes to retesting in 6-8 weeks

If you normally take levothyroxine at bedtime/in night ...adjust timings as follows prior to blood test

If testing Monday morning, delay Saturday evening dose levothyroxine until Sunday morning. Delay Sunday evening dose levothyroxine until after blood test on Monday morning. Take Monday evening dose levothyroxine as per normal

Brilliant so - right so to switch to night time shall I just take tonight even though I took it this morning or take a half dose ?

Sorry for so many questions but anxiety freezes my brain

Take half dose tonight at bedtime…..half in morning

See how that is for a few days

Then if want to move whole dose to bedtime do so in 3-5 days

I see I am a compulsive over eater and sometimes eat late into the night compulsively so maybe morning is best for me - I will increase the dose za I was on 150 before for years not still felt tired I was also on antidepressants

But came off and now anxiety worse than ever so I think I may stick to morning in case I am eating too late to leave a 4 hour gap before medication ?

Will the propanalol make me very tired if it stops me converting T4 to T3 ?

I am getting desperate for this anxiety to go - tried to go to work today - I have had 6 weeks off now and am no better than I was 6 weeks ago -left felt anxious all afternoon - got nothing done all day -, I know I should not have stopped levo but at the time I think I was over medicated and did not understand the Thyroid things at all - at least now I know how to check etc - o was feeling dizzy and had menopause stuff

Why should I not add T3 yet ?

Dinner needs to be at least 2 hours before levothyroxine

Last small snack or drink, other than water at least an hour before levothyroxine

Not necessarily

It might be dramatic improvement….was for me….

High cortisol affects thyroid hormones. Lowering cortisol with propranolol might give you more energy

got ya

Sarahpoppe232 in reply toSlowDragon

when do you suggest I start the T3 ?

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply toSarahpoppe232

See how small increase in levothyroxine helps and see how propranolol helps too

Stick with strictly gluten free/dairy free

The problem with adding T3 too early is TSH will drop to zero, shutting your own thyroid right off

If not on high enough dose levothyroxine, and stable this can make symptoms worse

Also you then get the inevitable issue of GP wanting to reduce levothyroxine prescription because they think your “over medicated “

I think I will increase levo and do propanalol and then move it in a few weeks or days depending on if I can stand anxiety by then
