I’m wondering if my Hayfever is making my Hypothyroidism worse? And if so does anyone know any tips on how to get it back level?
I’ve read a little about histamine and that it can affect your T4/T3 but I’m not really sure, I’ve had particularly bad Hayfever over the last few weeks and I’m starting to feel exhausted and sickly. It feels like I’m a zombie some days and like I’m under medicated and my hypo symptoms are kicking off. Previously I’ve been feeling really balanced.
I tried taking loretadin antihistamine but it made me feel like I was drugged which is odd because I used to be ok on that, i can’t take citrizine hydrochloride because that used to make me really flat.
I’m just wondering if anyone can tell me if im crazy for thinking that my Hayfever can make my hypothyroidism worse? And im hoping someone on here might have some tips to help me?
Thanks for any advice

Thanks for this, yes I’m hashis x I’m definitely going to check the antihistamine packaging for that warning and I’m going to get some Vit C thanks for responding xx
I'm on heavy doses of antihistamine and have had to increase my thyroid meds quite high. It definitely interferes with absorption.
Histamine also appears to interfere with cortisol levels. After a while of non-stop allergy exposure, it can result in you getting exhausted.
That said, it is better to just take antihistamine rather than let your body be exposed to increasing levels of histamine everyday and be continually sensitised.
Benadryl have two types with two different ingredients. One is either the same ingredient as piriton or cetirizine, if I remember correctly The other is something beginning with A (I think, I can't trust myself these days) anyway it's different from most of the others.
It was recommended to me if I needed to take something whilst staying awake.
I’m sure in some members, being hypo intensifies hay fever seasons. However, having struggled with hay fever for most of my life, my hay fever symptoms have massively reduced since being optimally dosed thyroid wise (plus optimal key thyroid vitamins). I wonder why that is?!
I thought this had happened to me because last year it was a lot more manageable but not this year.
I’m glad you have something positive come out of thyroid issues it sounds like you’re body is doing well so maybe it’s less sensitive to triggers as it’s calmer?
Maybe this year for me has just coincided with a flare up x
I know it’s a very bad year for hay fever; my children are suffering far more than in previous years. Yes, I feel that a reduction in my symptoms is a ‘little win’ for me. I hope it continues!
