please add ranges

You need full iron panel test for anaemia including ferritin

It’s possible to have low ferritin but high iron or vice versa

Medichecks iron panel test

Test early morning, only water between waking and test

If taking iron supplements stop these 5-7 days before test

thankyou for your quick response, I do have a ferritin as. well it was 119 ug/l thankyou so do you think iron is low

Kowbie profile image
Kowbie in reply to SlowDragon

sorry forgot range it’s 5.83umol/l. To 34.5 umol/l there is none for ferritin thanks

Your iron is only 16.6% through the range which is low.

You can see the suggested optimal levels usually used on this forum on this link :

rt3-adrenals.org/Iron_test_...

Optimally your serum iron would be around 55% - 70% through the range, usually lower end of that range for women.

Your ferritin of 119, even without the reference range, is likely to be a good level.

So you have low serum iron and reasonably good ferritin, suggesting that you might have Anaemia of Chronic Disease.

sorry I’m only just getting back to you ,but thankyou for replying,I read something but don’t really take it in I’ve just been reading about iron but I’ve read it twice and I’m still confused,I sent all my other results in as well ,I got in a muddle with that as well shouldn’t have made a new post but seaside susie has sorted it out for me but thanks again

10.6 (5.83-34.5) = 16.72% through range so that is quite low in range.

Do you have saturation percentage and Total Iron Binding results with ranges as well?

Is this a Medichecks iron test?

no this was my drs

I don’t think so , I will have a look thankyou for your reply

Kowbie profile image
Kowbie in reply to SeasideSusie

just looked I found transferrin saturation is 20% ranges 15%/50% I hope that’s what you mean can’t see a total iron binding one though thankyou

SeasideSusie profile image
SeasideSusieRemembering in reply to Kowbie

Saturation is low, optimal is 35-45% (higher end for males) according to the link Humanbean gave you. So with low serum iron and low saturation this is not exactly iron deficiency but they're certainly not optimal.

Your ferritin level looks pretty good but ferritin can be raised when inflammation is present. Was an inflammation marker tested, possibly CRP?

And definitely no TIBC?

Did you have a full blood count or haemoglobin tested?

Iron is complicated and Humanbean has suggested the possibility of Anaemia of Chronic Disease. I have no knowledge of this so can't comment.

thankyou for getting back to me,I will send other results in tomorrow’ if that’s ok ,I’ll have to go through them but do appreciate your time thanks again

hello I wrote a new post yesterday with all my results I don’t know if it’s been received and I don’t know how to find it, thankyou

I didn't see that post, if you had added the information in this thread (for continuity) as a reply to me I'd have been notified. You can find your own posts by clicking on your user name which takes you to your profile where you'll find all your posts and replies.

I've added the results here but we have to bear in mind these results are over 5 months old so we don't know if they're still appropriate:

150 thyroxine/12/1/2 t3 ,

haemoglobin level. 141g/l. ( 115-165g/l

This was a good level and doesn't show anaemia.

White blood 7.3. ( 4.10- 11/10g/l

Platelet count 208. (135-450g/l

No problems showing with these.

Red cell count 4.9 (3.8-4.8

This is very minimally elevated and probably wont worry your GP. This test tells you how many red blood cells you have.

Red blood cell 13.2%(10%-15%

Red blood cells contain haemoglobin which transports oxygen around the body. This result looks fine.

Heamatocrit 0.429 (0.37-0.47

Mean cell vol. 87.6. (80-100fl

Mean cell haemoglobin 28.8(27-34pg

Neutrophil count 4.2 (2-7.5gl

Monocyte count 0.5 (0.2-1.10g/l

Lymphocyte count 2.3(1.-4g/l

Eosinophil count 0.3(0-0.5

Basophil count 0.1(0.02-0.1

These all look OK, all within range.

Uncleared red 0. 10*g/l no range

No idea what this is.

Sodium 138(133-146mmol/L

Potassium 4.2(3.5-5.3mmol/L

Urea level 6.2(2.5-7.8mmol/L

Creatinine level serum 73(45-84umol/L

All in range and appear OK.

Estimated gfr blood 72ml minute no range

Can't comment on this.

Total bilirubin level serum 6(0-20umol/L

Alanine aminotransferase level serum 22(0-33u/l

In range so appear OK.

Ali phos level 151(30-130u/l

Should this be alkaline phosphatase? You might want to discuss this raised level with your GP.

Albumin level serum 40(35-50g/l

In range so appears OK.

Globulin level serum 31g/l no range

Can't comment.

Calcium level serum 2.33(2.2-2.6

Adjusted calcium 2.36(2.2-2.6mmol/L

In range so appear OK.

Inorganic phosphate level serum 1.7(0.8-1.5mmol/L

You might want to discuss this raised level with your GP.

Total protein 71(60-80g/l

In range so appears OK.

T4 17.9(10.5-22

T34.2(3.1-6.8

Tsh 0.02(0.27-4.2

One has to ask how you felt with these levels, but they may have changed in 5 months and may not be appropriate now.

Vit d 49 (50-140

This was low and it's recommended that Vit D be in the range of 100-150nmol/L according to the Vit D Council, Vit D Society and Grassroots Health, with a recent blog post on Grassroots Health recommending a level of at least 125nmol/L.

Do you supplement Vit D? If so what dose and do you take it's important cofactors of magnesium and Vit K2-MK7?

Kappa light chain level 44.02(3.3-19.4mg/L

Kappa lambda light chain ratio 1.68(0.26-11.65

Lambda light chain level 26.26(5.71-26.3mg/L

I have no idea what these are, has your GP explained what these tests are for?

Iron level serum 10.6(5.83-34.5umol/L

Transferring level 2.37(2-3.6g/l

Transferrin saturation 20%(15-50%

Ferritin level 119ug/L no range

Serum iron and saturation were commented on above.

Ferritin really needs range to be able to comment and need to know if any inflammation so really needs CRP done at the same time as need to know if it's raised due to inflammation.

I haven’t read all you’ve put yet but these were results from 30 may this year so only about a month ago , I’ve not been feeling very good at all really thankyou

Kowbie in reply to SeasideSusie

thankyou for all you have said about my results it sure why you thought they were from 5 months ago ,you were right it is alkaline phosphate, I do supplement vit d 2000 but no k2 or mk7 .will ask dr if they will do crop with the ferritin test I’m seeing her on Saturday does it matter what time the testis please ,and I’m sorry I started a new post I thought that’s what I was supposed to do but thankyou for sorting me out really appreciate all you do

Because of the date you put with the results in the post you wrote a couple of days ago :

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

150 thyroxine/12/1/2 t3 ,

haemoglobin level. 141g/l. ( 115-165g/l

etc

You have put the date as 12/1/23, which is January so 5 months ago.

Iron tests should be done after a 12 hour fast so eatly morning test is best to avoid going without food or drinks other than water for too long.

Kowbie profile image
Kowbie in reply to SeasideSusie

I’m sorry perhaps I should have written that a bit differently it was 150 thyroxine and 12and a half t3 sorry about that
