Thyroid or Post Polio

I have already posted on in this community and have had very helpful advice on hypo issues for which I am really grateful. However I also have post polio syndrome so I am never sure if the painful tired legs are the symptoms of hypo or PP or both 😟 just wanted to share this with you 💟

looking at previous posts you not long ago increased to 75mcg daily

Bloods need retesting 6-8 weeks after any dose change or brand change in levothyroxine

Which brand of levothyroxine are you currently taking

Are you testing vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least annually

Hi SlowDragon, hope you're well. I am currently taking 50 mcgs of Mercury Pharma & 50 mcgs of Thyronine (I still have these from Australia) and yes I was prescribed 75mcgs but decided to add the 25 myself as the Doctor said he could have prescribed up to 125mcgs but we both agreed to increase gradually. My vit D was 54, B12 292, Ferritin 38,. Folate, 7.1 and have been taking B complex, B12 vit D+K sublingual, for 6 weeks so will get tested again in 2 weeks.

what’s the units on vitamin D result

Vitamin D 54nmol - is low

54ng/mL is good

Ferritin is low

Look at increasing iron rich foods in your diet

so you need to supplement vitamin D

Low vitamin D causes joint and leg pain

Aiming for at least over 80nmol

suggest 2000- 3000iu daily and retest in 2-3 months

GP will often only prescribe to bring vitamin D levels to 50nmol.

Some areas will prescribe to bring levels to 75nmol or even 80nmol

leedsformulary.nhs.uk/docs/...

GP should advise on self supplementing if over 50nmol, but under 75nmol (but they rarely do)

mm.wirral.nhs.uk/document_u...

But improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol by self supplementing may be better

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is very effective as it avoids poor gut function.

There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7.

One spray = 1000iu
